Manufacturing Estimator – CNC Machining
Turn complex prints into confident, decision-ready numbers Smith & Company is an engineering-driven precision machining company supporting aerospace, defense, medical, and advanced industrial programs. Our estimating function is not a quoting desk—it’s a decision engine that feeds leadership, engineering, and operations with fast, accurate insight. If you can turn prints into numbers and numbers into clarity, this role is built for you.
What You’ll Do
• Prepare detailed cost estimates and quotes for CNC-machined parts and assemblies
• Analyze drawings, models, specifications, and customer RFQs
• Build routing assumptions: setups, cycle time, tooling, fixturing, inspection, and risk
• Collaborate daily with engineering, programming, quality, supply chain, and leadership
• Use Monday.com to manage RFQs, task flow, priorities, and due dates
• Communicate and coordinate through Microsoft Teams (internal + external)
• Manage and respond through customer portals (uploads, clarifications, revisions, pricing responses)
• Develop Excel-based estimating models (cost rollups, sensitivity analysis, what-if scenarios)
• Prepare clear overviews, summaries, and visuals for management review
• Enable fast, informed go / no-go and pricing decisions—no data dumps
• Support make/buy decisions and outside processing RFQs
• Maintain estimating assumptions tied to real shop performance
What We’re Looking For
• Experience estimating CNC machining in aerospace, defense, or high-complexity manufacturing
• Strong ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D models
• Solid understanding of:
3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining o Common A&D materials (aluminum, steel, stainless, titanium, castings)
Outside processes (anodize, heat treat, chem-film, paint, plating, etc.)
• Advanced Excel skills (structured models, lookups, clean summaries—not just spreadsheets)
• Comfortable working in Monday.com, Microsoft Teams, and customer RFQ portals
• Able to translate technical detail into executive-level clarity
• Organized, disciplined, and honest about risk • U.S. Person eligible for ITAR-controlled work
Bonus Points
• Background as a machinist, programmer, or manufacturing engineer
• Experience with NPI, prototypes, or low-volume / high-complexity work
• Project / program management, including direct customer engagement
• ERP-based routing and costing experience
• Prior support of prime or government RFQs
What We Offer
• Competitive compensation aligned with experience
• Brand-new, climate-controlled facility with modern inspection equipment
• Work on high-visibility, mission-critical programs
• Direct access to leadership—quality has a real voice here
• Work on high-visibility aerospace & defense programs
• Long-term growth with a company scaling the right way
Bottom line
If you believe estimating should enable speed, protect margins, and drive smart decisions, not just spit out prices— Smith & Company — Ready on Day One. Built to Win.
