Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the Manager, Inpatient Coding / Data Quality is to successfully and efficiently manage the inpatient coding process and the staff who review, interpret, code and abstract inpatient medical records information according to standard classification systems. Oversees the most advanced medical records coding and abstraction duties. Performs data quality reviews and prepares complex reports as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or a related field required. RHIA or RHIT certified required. CCS required. Minimum of five (5) years of hospital inpatient coding experience in ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure coding and DRG assignment, preferably in a tertiary care, teaching environment with complex surgical, transplant, trauma, neurosurgery, Ob / Gyn, and neonatology services. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, Coding Clinic, POA, query guidelines required. Knowledge of CMS, Medicaid and third-party payer coding, billing and compliance regulations required. Experience and / or use of an encoder (3M) and Epic electronic health record preferred. Must have the ability to balance multiple and changing priorities. Must be able to read, write and speak English and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be detail oriented, accurate, organized, and work well independently. Must have a working knowledge of computers and be able to navigate the internet. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, especially with the use of Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and shared files as daily tools. Additional related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
