Job description

The Department of External Affairs at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking a Communications Associate . The Communications Associatereports to the Director of Content Strategy and provides production and distribution support for the Public Health on call podcast and Bloomberg School newsletters. The Communications Associate is part of and works in close collaboration with the broader Communications and Marketing team for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, which produces and distributes content about the school's work and expertise to internal and external audiences worldwide.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Podcast Production Assistant - 60%

  • Coordinate day-to-day workflow, including file management; organizing and scheduling episodes in Trello; compiling, editing, and creating transcript pages for every episode; writing titles and summaries as needed, and uploading content to Libsyn,YouTube, and other platforms as needed.
  • Pitch fresh, innovative topics and themes to engage and grow audiences.
  • Serve as backup for producer as needed.
  • Oversee social media strategy, creating original engaging content to promote individual episodes and the show as a whole, adapting pre-existing content (e.g. resurfacing old episodes), monitoring comments, and develop and manage paid and organic reach campaigns on Spotify, YouTube, and other platforms.
  • Guest management including research and outreach, and thank you emails with social media kits to guests.
  • Assist with audience engagement through surveys and promotions.
  • Work with producer to write and submit awards proposals.
  • Assist with podcast events including end of year celebration and live events as needed.
  • Writing promos and scripts as needed, including underwriting for Hopkins / BSPH promos and trailers.
  • Manage [email protected] inbox, triaging messages to Producer as needed.
  • Collaborate with the team to identify opportunities to enhance content through trailers, explainers, or teasers.

Newsletter Production Assistant - 30%

  • Digital production to include compiling newsletter content, loading into newsletter platform, sending tests, checking links, proofreading, and other production support as assigned.
  • Expert Insights" newsletter, once per week on Wednesdays, in MailChimp.
  • SPHeed Read" internal newsletter, once per week on Mondays and Wednesdays, in Staff base.
  • In The News" newsletter of media mentions, two to five days per week, in Staff base.
  • Other - 10%

  • Provide additional support on OEA projects as needed.
  • Support other major initiatives of the Communications and Marketing Team as needed.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Four years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years related experience and demonstrated reliability in a communications environment.
  • Experience with podcast production and / or digital newsletter production.
  • Experience creating content for a variety of platforms, spanning written and visual content.
  • Experience developing and implementing content strategy across multiple channels.
  • Experience in a public health or higher education environment.
  • Experience with Libsyn, YouTube, MailChimp, Staffbase, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience with Trello or similar project management systems.
  • Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in writing for online audiences in various formats.
  • Demonstrated versatility in writing styles, including editorial stories and marketing copy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to set priorities among multiple projects and to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage daily and long-term deadlines without oversight from others.
  • Ability to carefully proofread and implement other measures of quality assurance.

    The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education / training and other qualifications.     Education and Experience Equivalency

    Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines : JHU Equivalency Formula : 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education / experience required for the respective job.
