Who We're Looking For
The City of Beverly Hills Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Communications Dispatcher. Communications Dispatchers answer all calls for emergency services and maintain radio and mobile data computer contact with police officers and firefighters in the field, acting as a lifeline by providing information and support and monitoring their safety. The ideal candidate will effectively communicate and coordinate in a teamwork environment, practice sound judgement, and think clearly under stress, responding quickly and accurately.

Position & Benefits
This position is represented by the City's Safety Support (SS) Association and is covered by the negotiated terms and conditions of that Association's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The City provides a generous compensation and benefits package, including CalPERS 2.5% @ 55 for classic members; $2,150 / month towards health insurance (with option of up to $475 / month as taxable cash); a monthly contribution of $250 to an RHS account for retiree medical savings; generous vacation accruals with the option for annual cash-outs. Selection Process
All applicants must submit clear, concise and complete information regarding their qualifications for the position, including responses to all supplemental questions. Resumes alone will not be accepted in lieu of the application or supplemental materials.
- Review of Application, Supplemental Questions, and Attachments
You must attach a valid typing certificate showing your ability to type at least 45 words per minute. Online certificates are accepted.
The online written exam includes a typing test; assess your ability to type at least 45 words per minute.
Applicants who do not attach a valid typing certificate will not move forward in the recruitment process. Typing certificates must be dated no more than one year from the date of applying. Online typing certificates are acceptable.
Note : Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and attach a valid typing certificate will be required to complete an online written exam which includes a typing test.
Background Investigation
The final step of the selection process requires a thorough police background investigation, including DOJ and FBI background checks, education and employment history, credit and DMV review, personal statement, and reference checks.

Examples of Essential Duties
Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical requirements include : Experience : No experience required. Training : Completion of twelfth grade; POST Public Safety Dispatcher course desirable. License and Certificate : Typing certificate showing 45 WPM. Knowledge of : Principles of customer service, telephone etiquette; correct English usage; telephone communication techniques.
Ability to
Learn and operate CAD, two-way radio, and telephone equipment; learn and apply Police and Fire services codes; learn California Penal Codes and department policies; learn FCC rules; communicate clearly both orally and in writing; think clearly under stress; type 45 WPM; maintain regular attendance; work various shifts; establish effective working relationships; work with diverse groups.
