Job description

The Asia Group (TAG) is now accepting applications for a Communications Director. This role will be based in Washington, DC, but it also involves working closely with TAG’s Asia-based offices to deliver strong, outward-facing communications outcomes.

TAG is a leading strategic and capital advisory firm that positions clients – ranging from Fortune 100 multinationals to innovative startups – for success in established and emerging markets across the Indo-Pacific region. Our expertise is delivered through a network of offices in key cities including Washington D.C., New Delhi, Mumbai, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, Bangkok, Hanoi, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney. Our team is a diverse mix of partners, senior advisers, and talent with extensive backgrounds in government, the private sector, and the military.

We champion a corporate culture that values teamwork, collegiality, creativity, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Operating at a brisk pace, we maintain a demanding yet adaptable and enjoyable work environment. At TAG, we’re committed not only to professional excellence but also to the growth of our firm. We dedicate ourselves to mentoring and leading our staff, recognizing the importance of nurturing talent as part of our journey to continued success.

The Communications Director will work with TAG’s Leadership and Operations team and TAG’s Geopolitics and Research team, as well as TAG’s Asia-based offices, under the general direction of Chief Operating Officer Enoch Kim. They will be responsible for developing and executing a firm-wide communications strategy to boost the global visibility and impact of TAG thought leadership and media outreach efforts. They will also oversee internal communications to ensure alignment, engagement, and transparency across the organization.

Specific responsibilities will include managing relationships with the journalism and policy communities; innovating firmwide systems and processes for branding, marketing and engagement for events, written products, and other deliverables, curating TAG’s website and social media accounts, and driving internal communications initiatives that foster a cohesive company culture and facilitate knowledge sharing across teams.

The ideal candidate will bring recent mid-level professional experience in public communications from a business, media group, or government agency. They should also possess a strong grasp of the Indo-Pacific’s political, regulatory, and macroeconomic landscapes, as well as the ability to harness TAG’s thought leadership efforts into actionable strategies for growing its visibility and media presence.

Responsibilities Include :

External Communications :

  • Developing and executing a firm-wide communications strategy for boosting the visibility and impact of TAG thought leadership and media outreach efforts in both the United States and Asia;
  • Managing incoming media inquiries and cultivating close relationships with stakeholders in the international journalism and policy communities;
  • Working closely with the Leadership and Operations Team and the Geopolitics and Research Team to link strategic communications efforts with firmwide business development priorities;
  • Innovating firmwide systems and processes for branding, marketing, and posting TAG long-form reports, commentaries, webinars, and other public-facing deliverables; and,
  • Curating TAG’s official website and social media accounts, including regular analytic reports.

Internal Communications :

  • Developing and implementing internal communication strategies to enhance knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and engagement across TAG’s global offices;
  • Partnering with Leadership and Operations Team to craft messaging that aligns with TAG’s mission, values, and strategic priorities;
  • Creating and overseeing internal newsletters, updates, and messaging to ensure transparency and alignment across teams;
  • Supporting Leadership and Operations Team in delivering key company announcements and updates through various communication channels, including town halls, written memos, and digital platforms; and,
  • Maintaining an internal content repository in the BOB Platform to ensure employees have access to key materials, reports, and branding guidelines.
  • May be assigned other projects or special duties, as needed according to business needs.
  • Required Experience and Qualifications :

  • Relevant degree and 5-plus years’ relevant work experience;
  • Experience in journalism, communications, or government relations, demonstrating the ability to liaise with media and strategic partners to promote thought leadership;
  • Familiarity with social media, especially for campaigns, advocacy, business development, or equivalent;
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present in a polished and effective manner to reporters, internal and external senior business executives, and other interlocutors in multinational settings;
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities;
  • Team player with positive, proactive, and professional attitude; eager for professional development and open to learning;
  • Flexibility with respect to working and communication hours, particularly when coordinating TAG’s Indo-Pacific offices; and,
  • Outstanding professional proficiency in business English.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States and are expected to work in-person at the TAG DC office five days per week. TAG provides competitive benefits including premium health insurance, generous paid time off, 401k matching, and commuter allowances with regular training opportunities available to its employees. For this role, TAG offers a salary of $110,000 to $160,000 per year, based on experience, with eligibility for a discretionary end of year bonus.
