Job description

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US Congress to serve as America's national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educate Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as international audiences. The Museum has three areas of expertise : Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and genocide prevention.

Information about the Office / Division :

We are seeking a Communications intern who's open and ready to learn about how the Museum talks about its current endeavors to the media and the general public. The Communications team, within the Museum's Marketing Communications Office, supports the institutional priorities of protecting the Museum's brand, expanding and diversifying the Museum's audiences and, securing its future with media outreach and advertising placements in international, national and regional newspapers, online, and radio outlets. We work with all Museum offices to help fulfill the vision of the permanence of Holocaust memory, understanding and relevance, and a world in which people are inspired to confront antisemitism and hatred, prevent genocide and promote human dignity.

Major Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Help pitch and place stories about Museum public and virtual programs, events, artifact donations, survivor research news, etc. in local, regional and national outlets;
  • Aid in updating / creating lists of journalists and potential reporters-including college outlets, blogers, podcasts, etc.,- who might cover our major fundraising events, Museum statements, programs, and other initiatives;
  • Monitor media coverage of Museum's l programs and initiatives and coverage that might impact the Museum's work;
  • Work with team to help promote visitation to the Museum;
  • Assist communications team in overseeing documentary filming and broadcast interviews of Museum staff and survivor volunteers (only if located near Museum).
  • Assist communications team in developing reports measuring outreach impact.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Currently pursuing a degree in one of the following fields :
  • Journalism

  • History
  • English
  • Marketing
  • Communications
  • Foreign language or foreign policy / international studies are encouraged to apply

  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Interviews for the Summer 2025 internship program will begin in April 2025; for advanced applicants. Final selection decisions will be made by May 2025, and all candidates will be notified of their status via email by Human Resources.
