Job description

Position Summary

:

The communications coordinator:??

  • Develops and implements strategic communications plans to reach targeted audiences; assists schools and departments in developing and implementing communications plans.??
  • Writes, edits, designs, and manages production of a variety of key district publications.?
  • Plans and produces videos.?
  • Develops, designs, and implements the district’s social media strategy.?
  • Coordinates district photography needs, attending school/district/community events to take photos and managing contracts with external photographers.?
  • Participates in community activities and community-based partnership meetings and events.?Plans, coordinates, and implements a variety of district events such as community booths, school supply drives, and other events as assigned.
  • Oversees the district's notification system, including assisting schools with training and messaging.
  • When the executive director is unavailable, acts as the spokesperson for the district to the news media, nurturing positive relationships with the news media and community, coordinating emergency communications, and attending school board meetings and representing the district at other community meetings as assigned.?
  • Performs other duties as assigned.?

Part II: Supervision and Controls over the Work:

This position serves under the direction of the Executive Director of Communications. ?

Part III: Minimum Qualifications:?

  • Excellent communicator:?
  • Strong writer and editor who can apply plain language principles.
  • Comfortable with public speaking.
  • Able to foster and maintain professional relationships with district staff, school board members, and community partners.?
  • Five years of experience in public relations, marketing, and/or communications, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Experience in video production, including planning, filming, and editing.
  • Proficiency in graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote).
  • Experience in devising a data-driven social media strategy and managing multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Demonstrates capacity for communications leadership:
  • Understands the importance of strategic communications and can develop and implement communications plans for a variety of programs and initiatives.
  • Committed to the principles of effective leadership and a willingness to grow as a leader in the profession. This includes the ability to provide supportive guidance and direction to staff.??
  • Able to serve as a liaison between the Communications Department and schools and other district departments.
  • Functions as an integral and productive part of a team, working collaboratively with colleagues and using team protocols and processes.
  • Strives for authentic engagement with communities currently underrepresented or underserved in education.
  • Has high ethical standards, including the ability to work with sensitive information appropriately and confidentially.
  • Produces consistently high-quality work. The individual in this position must be able to:
  • Set priorities and use independent judgment and organizational skills to manage multiple projects.
  • Produce work under deadline with an attention to detail.
  • Maintain a calm and professional demeanor in all circumstances.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively as needed.

Part IV: Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, business, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in media relations, including responding to media inquiries and pitching stories.
  • Knowledge of current trends in public education.
  • Accreditation in public relations.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
  • peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently works in temperature and humidity-controlled environments.
  • The employee may sit or stand for longer than two hours at a time, may lift objects repeatedly, and may undertake repeated motions.
