The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical / Licensed Vocational Nurse is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. The LPN performs within this functional statement under guidance of the Nurse Manager or designee. Assigned tasks require basic technical competence and skill. The LPN is expected to be able to function at the fully successful level for all elements.

• Promotes and demonstrates nursing concepts in the Medical Center.
• Works in collaboration with the Registered Nurse, and / or Health Care Provider (HCP).
• Documents care provided; observations and responses on appropriate tools or forms, observing changes in patient's condition (e.g., behavior shifts, mood changes, sking coloring, appetite, etc.)
• Based on assigned area, performs nursing care procedures (e.g., sterile techniques, blood glucose monitoring, catheterization, suctioning, wound care, colostomy care, tube feeding, tracheotomy care, oxygen therapy, deep breathing and coughing, and specimen collection) according to policy, guidelines, and oversight from senior nursing staff.
• Complies with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for pretreatment / cleaning Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) in applicable patient care setting.
• Assists other staff to prioritize the overall veteran care needs and adjusts the plan of care as needed.
• Has astute assessment skills, which allow for observation of obvious and subtle changes in the veteran health condition.
• Responds diligently to the veteran changes and deteriorating condition in emergent situations, notifying appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

Work Schedule : 7 : 30AM - 8 : 00PM with rotating weekends

Pay : Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off : 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave : After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy : After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement : Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
