The Department of Revenue's core mission is to collect the revenues required to support the business of the Commonwealth, to make a difference in the lives of children by enforcing the financial responsibilities of parenthood, and to assist Massachusetts cities and towns in sound and efficient fiscal management. Our vision is to conduct our operations in a manner that inspires public confidence in government by administering and enforcing tax, child support and municipal finance laws in ways that are innovative, customer-focused and transparent.
Division Overview :
The Operations Division provides information and assistance to taxpayers and tax practitioners of the Commonwealth, reviews applications for abatement of tax and adjusts taxpayer accounts. Operations mission is to deliver outstanding customer service, maximize revenue collections using the most innovative cost-effective means available and to promote DOR's enhanced web service self-help tools. The agency is seeking a Computer Operator II; this position is an ON-SITE position and must report to work at 200 Arlington Street, Chelsea, MA each day.
Duties & Responsibilities :
- Supervise and coordinate processing activities of employees by assigning and monitoring performance and managing workflows as needed for effective business operations.
- Provide on the job training on various systems including Fairfax and GeniSys and training on job duties by teaching proper techniques and DOR rules and regulations to employees.
- Maintain a quality control program, reviewing employees' work and program results.
- Perform related duties such as operating copy machine, adding machine and computers.
- Interact with other divisions / agencies to resolve problems.
- Assume additional supervisory functions in the absence of immediate supervisor.
- Attend meetings, keep records and other related duties.
- The regular work schedule for this position will be Monday - Friday, 7 : 00am - 3 : 00pm. However, during the state income tax filing season, work schedule may change to 2 : 00pm-10 : 00pm as needed due to operational needs. The employee will be given at least ten days' notice before the effective date of the shift change.
Qualifications :
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Minimum entrance requirements : Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in electronic data processing work, the major duties of which included the operation of the console of a computer and / or the peripheral devices used in support of computer operations, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions :
I. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in the field of data processing may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
II. A diploma for completion of a one year full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business or vocational / technical school above the high school level with a major in the field of data processing may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
III. An official transcript from a recognized business or technical / vocational school as evidence of completion of a program consisting of at least 650 hours of instruction in computer programming / operation may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
IV. Graduation from the data processing course of a recognized vocational / technical high school may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
