Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for the ECE Computer Engineering Laboratory Director, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering [R0144532] .
ROLE of the POSITION
The ECE computer engineering laboratory director will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and assessments of the undergraduate laboratory courses in computer engineering with the help of the graduate teaching assistants and student workers. The ECE computer engineering lab director will work closely with the faculty in modifying the existing, as necessary, design new teaching and research laboratories as the need arises.
The major job duties include : coordinate undergraduate laboratories and prepare teaching assistants for conducting their duties (40%), instruct undergraduate senior design courses (20%), modify and update Computer Engineering laboratory courses (20%), help with research laboratories in Electrical and Computer Engineering (10%), and perform laboratory assessments and help with the accreditation process (10%).
The ECE Computer Engineering Laboratory director must demonstrate the ability for continued life-long learning with the director job duties in mind, especially related to hands-on experience for undergraduate laboratory development needs.
PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT
The offers B.S.in Electrical Engineering, B.S. in Computer Engineering, M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Ph.D.in Electrical Engineering. The department has 18 tenure or tenure-track faculty members. The faculty groups to four sub-area committees (SAC) : 1. Electronics and Circuits; 2. Computer Engineering; 3. Solid state materials, Electromagnetism and Power; 4. Signal Processing, Control and Communication.
Many of our have expertise in more than one of these areas and they teach courses in multiple areas. The areas of the faculty’s active research are : nanotechnology, spintronics, opto-electronics, renewable power, integrated electrical / biological / optical circuits and systems, image processing and analysis, embedded DSP, digital design, logic synthesis, computer architecture, embedded systems, robotics, nonlinear and hybrid control systems, intelligent transportation systems, wireless networks, 3G and 4G cellular systems, agile radio, electromagnetics, plasma physics, pulsed power, microwaves, optics, radiation hardened electronics, optics, and imaging systems, high energy density physics diagnostics, space flight instrumentation, laser spectroscopy, and other.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Masters’ degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and / or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
Skills : Be proficient with typical computer / digital logic / network design, programming, simulation, and verification tools; technical skills must extend to PCB layout and fabrication, soldering, proficient use of oscilloscopes, function generators, logic analyzers, power supplies, volt / ohm meters; good communication skills (writing and speaking) and good people skills in order to interface with people of varying backgrounds (e.g., students, faculty, vendors, staff, etc.); and proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and database development and be able to budget as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1-3 years of experience preferred in a role that demonstrates effective laboratory management, and / or laboratory instruction, and / or practical experience with laboratory tools, and / or research.
Knowledge : Hands-on laboratory experience which covers most of the areas in computer engineering (computer architectures, computer networking, operating systems, digital logic design, embedded systems, programming) and some laboratory background in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.
