Construction Inspection Specialist (Flex Staff)
CDM Smith is looking for Inspectors to provide independent, professional construction inspection and oversight of federal construction projects with agencies such as USACE, AFCEC, and NAVFAC. This is a pipeline requisition for future projects. The construction inspection specialist documents inspection findings and communicates issues to project leadership. The role requires applying broad professional knowledge of construction practices to meet client needs, clearly communicating project progress and issues to diverse functional teams and project leadership, and ensuring projects are delivered successfully, safely, and in compliance with applicable requirements. Work is performed independently under limited supervision.
Job duties include :
- Conducting on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects as well as related civil structures (roads, dams, bridges, facilities, utilities, etc.) to verify compliance with approved design specifications, industry standards, safety codes, and applicable federal regulations.
- Documenting inspection results inclusive of deficiencies, deterioration, structural condition, deviations between design and execution of construction, required corrective actions and any needed sampling.
- Reviewing contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material certifications in coordination with engineers and project management teams.
- Monitoring construction progress, preparing and maintaining detailed daily reports, deficiency notices, project status reports, and technical recommendations.
- Inspecting and verifying construction materials and testing processes (concrete breaks, compaction testing, welding / joint inspections, pressure testing, etc.) to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Overseeing and coordinating field construction related services on projects, enforcing adherence to safety, environmental, quality control, and permitting requirements.
- Conducting site investigations, reviewing relevant data including maps, reports, test results, drawings and others as required.
- Participating in pre-construction meetings, design reviews, technical assessments, safety meetings, and project closeout / punch list activities.
- Ensuring compliance with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc. and delivering technical files and other technical documentation as required.
- Developing, training, and mentoring junior construction professionals, providing technical direction, and serving as a liaison between contractors, engineering staff, and client.

Pay range minimum : $27.30.
Pay range maximum : $54.60.
Additional compensation : All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
Work location options : Successful candidate will be required to work 100% in the field locations.
