Duties and Responsibilities

Office Management / Administrative Responsibilities

  • Responsible for decisions regarding student mental health issues.
  • Collaboratively (with staff) develops and implement ongoing vision for counseling services.
  • Assists in formulating and facilitating policies and procedures of the Wellness Center in accordance with the mission of the University including clinical policies, risk assessment, emergency protocols, informed consent and limits of confidentiality.
  • Assists AVP Student Health and Wellness as needed in supervision and administration of all Wellness Center Staff.
  • Serves as Active AVP in their absence.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with patient privacy laws, rule regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Develops, updates and implements clinical policies and procedures for mental health clinical services.
  • Collaborates with Leadership Team members on overall vision of center including strategic planning, formulating and facilitating overall policies of the wellness Center in accordance with the mission of the university.
  • Develops ongoing assessments and evaluations of outcomes indicators.
  • Participation in the ongoing Wellness Center Quality Improvement Program.
  • Serves to exhibit and promote ethical decision-making and behavior in staff.
  • Prepares and analyzes statistical reports based.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provides direct clinical service as duties allow.
  • Maintains level of quality of service as outlined in the American College Health Association Recommended Standards for a College Health program.
  • Facilitates collaborative, integrated approach to mental health care.
  • Supervision

  • Responsible for the hiring, training and supervising counseling staff at three campuses (WTC, LSC and Maywood) including the Associate Director of Counseling at LSC.
  • Supervision includes the planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems of the counseling staff.
  • In the absence of the AVP for Health and Wellness, is responsible for supervising the Wellness Center leadership team.
  • Encourages and values staff development.
  • Determines staffing needs based on objective data.
  • Campus Partner Support

  • Coordinates and collaborates with other departments in the implementation of an early warning system for intervention with students with behavioral problems.
  • Collaborates with Director of Campus Safety when students present with behavioral problems
  • Serves as the lead behavioral consultant to Behavioral concerns and Threat Assessment Teams.
  • Serves as a primary member of the Behavioral Concerns Team (BCT)
  • Coordinates campus-re-entry interviews for students as required by BCT policies and / or the Office of the Dean of Students.
  • Serves as a primary member of the Threat Assessment Team (TAT)
  • Responds to crises that affect the community through specialized programming and post intervention services.
  • Presents to key stakeholders on responding to students in distress
  • Participate as an active member in the Division of Student Development and acts as a liaison between the Wellness Center and the larger division, other university departments, and university administration.
  • Develops liaisons with academic departments.
  • Provides clinical support, consultation and supervision to embedded therapists in various departments including Athletics, Center for Diversity and Inclusion and Arrupe College.
  • Provides clinical support to Rome Center Mental Health Providers and develops partnership with Director of Rome Center.
  • Professional Organizations

  • Maintains active membership in the Association of Coordinators of Counseling Center Clinical Services
  • Misc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Minimum Education and / or Work Experience

    Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or ten years of related experience administering wellness programs, Counseling, and / or training.

    Preferred qualifications : Doctorate in counseling or related field.

    Qualifications

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and develop effective relationships within the division of Student Affairs, and with key stakeholders external to the division, including but not limited to : Office of the Dean of Students, Judicial Affairs, Information Technologies, Residence Life, Campus Ministry, and Campus Safety.
  • A commitment to diversity is required.
  • Proven ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, staff and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Advanced MS Word processing, MS Excel or Spreadsheets, MS PowerPoint.
  • Sound leadership skills.
  • Commitment to diversity.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions.
  • Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable.
  • Previous management experience in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Effective grant writing skills.
  • Certificates / Credentials / Licenses

    Licensed in the State of Illinois.

    Proficient in Electronic Medical Record; in addition to commonly used University programs
