Job description

Focus School Software is a fast-growing school management software company. We thrive on creating some of the most innovative features on the market today, helping educators to meet their evolving needs in classrooms, district management, state reporting compliance, and other facets of student-centered education and technology.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Technical Writer to join our team. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and can deliver high-quality documentation under tight deadlines. This role is responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving help guides, training manuals, FAQs, and troubleshooting guides—often with short turnaround times aligned to product releases and staff requests. The ability to rapidly process release updates and translate them into clear, user-friendly content is essential.

Preferred Qualifications :

Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, English, or a related field.

Previous experience in technical writing or content development in a high-velocity release environment preferred.

Qualifications & Skills :

Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an emphasis on speed and precision.

Proven ability to manage multiple projects with fast turnaround times.

Experience with documentation tools, content management systems, or knowledge bases is a plus.

Strong communication skills and the ability to extract information quickly from stakeholders.

Comfortable adapting to new tools and workflows in a deadline-driven environment.

Familiarity with agile development cycles and rapid release management is highly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities :

Track new releases and back-merges to ensure documentation is updated promptly and accurately.

Maintain and revise help documents and training manuals with a focus on speed, accuracy, and clarity.

Respond quickly to change requests submitted by staff, updating documentation as needed.

Keep internal tracking spreadsheets current with real-time updates on documentation changes, release notes, and project status.

Expand documentation to include FAQs, example scenarios, and troubleshooting guides that proactively address user needs.

Collaborate with the writing team to produce documentation for new features under tight release schedules.

Review and improve existing documentation for clarity, grammar, formatting consistency, and fast user navigation.

Interview subject matter experts and technical staff to quickly gather and apply information for documentation.

Translate product specifications and technical content into concise, actionable user documentation on short deadlines.

Embed screenshots for reference to improve clarity and usability.

Prioritize quick absorption of release notes—including features and bug fixes—and produce clear, client-ready documentation on an accelerated schedule.
