Job description

Description :

Under general supervision of the CT Supervisor, and following established policies and procedures, operates a CT (computed tomography) scanner to obtain images for use by physicians in diagnoses and treatment of pathologies. The technologist provides technical and ancillary support to the department mission through demonstrated clinical and academic competency in CT. Clinical and academic competency is defined as completing training and meeting all clinical responsibilities to all areas assigned, ability to work unsupervised in the clinical setting, willingness to rotate to all areas as the need arises, and holding appropriate licensure and advanced certification, as required by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists), the ACR (American College of Radiology)and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties :

  • Operates a CT (computed tomography) scanner to perform technologist duties as required and necessary for proper departmental workflow.
  • Performs appropriate studies as determined through policy and procedure. Follows requisition in terms of providing proper study for patients. Ensures that exams requested match patient condition and / or history and calls or asks the appropriate persons for more information as necessary to perform the proper study.
  • Prepares patient for exams as required and always ensures patient comfort and modesty. Accommodates patient needs and staffing needs through flexibility in scheduling and timeliness of studies.
  • Set up equipment as necessary and use proper imaging techniques. Adjusts imaging factors when necessary to improve study or quality factors. Works through radiologist’s requirements to provide appropriate images and provides additional views and variations of techniques as requested.
  • Completes procedures in timely fashion while providing quality images for Radiology and outside departments. Completes work by the end of the shift or communicates with coworkers about work needing completion.
  • Participate in intravenous (IV) training, and pass all competencies required to start and administer IV contrast material under the general observation of a qualified physician, as per department policy and procedure.
  • Maintains equipment through interaction with both management and department service vendors to maximize equipment up time, and patient care, and minimize dollar impact to the health center.
  • Performs patient-focused customer service and ensures the following standards are met appropriately and achieved. Communicate patient complaints professionally to the appropriate supervisor. Keeps discussions around patients to a minimum and ensures that patients are not subjected to departmental conversations and / or any inappropriate behavior. Handles telephone calls and requests for services both professionally and appropriately.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Education :

  • Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Requirements :

    Must be ARRT registered in Radiologic Technology.

    CT Specialty required or obtained within one year of employment.

  • BLS or CPR required
  • Experience :

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in diagnostic radiology, experience in CT preferred.
  • Knowledge And Skills :

  • Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques and procedures and cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Creativity and latitude, and the ability to adapt to changing pace within the department are necessary qualities.
  • Must present a positive, team-oriented attitude and a professional appearance.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting heavy objects and patients, and adhere to safety standards set forth by the Radiology Department, EBNHC and other regulatory agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills enough to interact effectively with patients and all / any apprehensions, to instruct students and to interact with other staff technologists.
