Part-Time Storm Dance Team Coach

Purpose of Position :

The Department of Athletics at Christopher Newport University is seeking applications for the position of CNU Storm Dance Team Coach. The Dance Coach will be expected to work hours outside of the regular school day including weekends, and travel with the team to camps and major events. Administrative, supervisory, and budgetary responsibilities are necessary for overseeing all aspects of the team. Understanding the holistic experience of a student athlete is important so each team member can grow as a dancer and student. This is a part-time position and does not entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits. This individual will report directly to the Associate Director of Athletics.

Departmental Information :

Summary of Responsibilities : Coach is responsible for all aspects of the dance team including but not limited to, team tryouts, choreography, scheduling, travel, budget, monitoring academic progress and other duties as deemed necessary that may be assigned.

Expectations : Attend minimum of 2 practices weekly, meticulously clean routines, attend all home

football games and most of home basketball games, maintain fiscal responsibility for team budget to include assist with team fundraisers, order merchandise, serve as a liaison for the team and Athletic Department and other campus partners, Provide constructive feedback and evaluation of team and individual dancers.

Education Required : Bachelor’s degree with preference to those in Dance or another performing arts specialty.

Qualifications Required : Valid Driver’s License; Current CPR / AED certification, Demonstrated

coaching experience working with competitive dance teams; Extensive knowledge of dance routines and safety while performing them.

Qualifications Preferred : Coaching experience on the collegiate or professional level; Proven

experience in creating and teaching choreography; Experience with various dance forms such as, ballet, jazz, hip hop, pom, funk, and modern dance; Knowledge of National Dance Alliance (NDA) rules and regulations, current dance trends and dance team culture.
