You Will

The Analytics & Insights team is part of the larger Strategy and Planning Community and is responsible for producing data-driven insights to improve and inform decision making, strategic development, and identify areas of opportunity across the organization and movement. The team serves all Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) departments and 110 independent Girl Scout councils leveraging internal and 3rd party data, resources, and research to inform these insights and will commission and execute new research or find new data sources to fill any gaps. This team is responsible for Enterprise Data Management, required to enable data-driven decisions. This includes data management, privacy, governance, reporting and analytics. The team is also responsible for producing on-going and ad-hoc analyses and dashboards to ensure movement stakeholders have the information necessary to make informed decisions. They help inform the creation of and track KPIs and metrics to measure performance of strategies and initiatives.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Data Storytelling Manager will analyze and interpret large data sets to identify key insights and trends, support Girl Scouts strategy and accelerate key initiatives. She / he will be responsible for turning complex data into compelling, easy-to-understand narratives that engage and inform stakeholders, both internally and externally. Working as an integrated part of Analytics and Insights, the Data Storytelling Manager will play a key role in translating the vast amount of data, analytics and research we have into key insights, content and stories to help Girl Scouts increase membership, revenue, build public policy and strategy, and communicate the mission. This position is responsible for insight development and content creation for the Analytics & Insights team. Therefore, the ideal individual would be knowledgeable about data, analytics, and research technology (i.e., Snowflake, BI Tools, systems architecture, Qualtrics, research methodologies) and can analyze these sources of information and translate into actionable insights, sound bites and presentations. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and is an excellent communicator. A highly valued partner to GSUSA communities, the Manager creates research and analytical insights, content summaries verbally, in written form and in PowerPoint for local councils, internal and external stakeholders, including public policy makers, donors, foundations and non-profit related media in partnership with GSUSA marketing, communications, marketing and council partnerships. The Data Storytelling Manager is a critical thinker with points of view that help drive data-driven decisions in the Girl Scout Movement. Specific contribution for this position includes :

Gathers data, analytics, and research from multiple sources to tell a story. These stories could be deep dives into a particular subject or high-level one-page summaries of key insights or takeaways.

  • Translates data into clear, concise, and impactful visualizations and presentations
  • Communicate findings and insights to stakeholders in a variety of formats, including presentations, reports, infographics, and interactive dashboards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data-driven strategies and solutions
  • Develop and maintain a library of data stories that showcase the impact of Girl Scouts and the State of Girls today
  • Stays up to date with the latest trends and best practices in data storytelling, visualization, and our industry
  • Manages high-level project teams and external vendors as necessary
  • May involve supervision of intern(s), contractor(s), or consultant(s), including the day-to-day management of time, projects, and responsibilities.
  • Works closely with the Analytics & Insights team to create a "storytelling with data" competency.
  • Collaborate with colleagues at the national and council levels to communicate key narratives.
  • Represents work at GSUSA at council events.
  • Attends required local and national meetings as needed.
  • Provides data storytelling and visualization related support as needed to the Analytics & Insights team, Strategy & Planning and other GSUSA communities.

  • Business Intelligence Development & Reporting - Design, develop, and maintain BI solutions, including dashboards, reports, and data visualizations, using tools such as Looker, PowerBI, Microsoft tools or similar

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Strong written, visualization and verbal communications skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear, concise, and engaging manner.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets, reports, research and translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Strong analytical and data visualization skills, with a deep understanding of data-driven storytelling principles and techniques
  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in the sector is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong content writing and PowerPoint skills
  • A passion for youth and girl development
  • REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

    Office 365 or similar suites

    Microsoft tools (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

    Proficiency in data analysis tools such as SQL, SPSS, or R, as well as visualization tools such as Looker, PowerBI, or similar

    Knowledge of Qualtrics and research methodologies a plus

    Knowledge of Snowflake a plus

    Artificial Intelligence experience a plus

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (i.e., degrees, certifications)

    Degree or Equivalent Experience :

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

    Minimum Years of Experience : Minimum of five (5) years' experience in corporate environment

    SALARY RANGE : $70,000 - $100,000

    This represents the present low and high end of the pay range for this position. This pay range is only applicable to NYC Metro-based employees, on a hybrid schedule. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience.
