Job description

At Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC) and its many diverse subsidiaries our mission is to actively manage our businesses, our lands, and resources, our investments, and our relationships to enhance Inupiaq cultural and economic freedom. We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong emphasis on system administration and business analysis. The ideal candidate will not only excel in managing, maintaining, and optimizing database systems but also possess the ability to consult and collaborate with internal stakeholders, including application development, data analytics, and data integration teams. This hybrid role combines technical expertise with business acumen to support the organization's data-driven initiatives and IT infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Database Administration :

Design, implement, and maintain database systems to ensure high performance, security, and reliability.

  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, indexing, patching, license management, and upgrades
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, resolving bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
  • Ensure database security by implementing and managing access controls, encryption, and compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Troubleshoot database-related issues and provide timely resolutions.
  • Administer and optimize cloud-based database environments within Oracle Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Azure, including configuring, scaling, and performance tuning.
  • System Administration :
  • Manage and maintain on-premises database instances and servers and related infrastructure, ensuring seamless operation and minimal downtime.

  • Configure, monitor, and maintain operating systems and server hardware to support database environments.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure database environments align with system architecture and business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain scripts for automation of administrative tasks, such as build deployments and monitoring.
  • Implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans for database systems.
  • Support any database compliance and regulatory auditing needs as necessary
  • Business Analysis & Consulting :
  • Act as a liaison between IT, business teams, and in some cases customers to understand data analytics needs, application requirements, pain points, and data integration needs.

  • Analyze, document, and communicate technical and functional requirements related to databases, data processes, data quality and data governance.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to application development teams for database schema design and query optimization.
  • Support data analytics teams in designing and executing data models, dashboards, and reports.
  • Offer expertise in data integration processes, including ETL workflows and API / File-based data interfaces.
  • Software Development Lifecycle Support :
  • Collaborate with application development teams to ensure database alignment with software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.

  • Contribute to the design, testing, and deployment of applications by providing database-related insights and recommendations.
  • Ensure database changes are managed effectively within version control and deployment pipelines.
  • Develop scripting solutions utilizing scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python or Structured Query Language (SQL) and participate in code reviews, focusing on SQL and database design standards.
  • Support the integration of database systems within Agile and DevOps workflows.
  • Collaboration and Support :
  • Partner with stakeholders to develop data governance standards and best practices.

  • Provide training and support to team members on database systems and tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and refine data-driven solutions.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of database environments, architecture diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
  • REQUIRED EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator with exposure to system administration tasks.
  • Three to four (3-4) years of experience Web services, restful services (JSON and XML), overall database management, and SQL development skills
  • Proficiency in database platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, or ETL tools such as Databricks.
  • Strong understanding of system administration, including Linux / Windows servers and virtualization.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or Azure.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with data integration tools and techniques, such as Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Oracle Integration Cloud, or Databricks, or custom ETL pipelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, including experience leveraging data to inform decision making and independently solving software engineering problems
  • Background in Oracle Fusion ERP / HCM, Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, Oracle Integration Cloud, Power BI, Power BI Server, and Power Apps is preferred
  • PREFERRED EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Certification in database administration (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle DBA).
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, or CI / CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and project management practices.
  • Experience with application integration platforms and / or data analytics platforms (e.g., Oracle Integration Cloud, data lake solutions, data mart & warehouse solutions, Databricks data
  • storage and orchestration solutions) or related experience such as software development management positions

  • Background in Oracle Fusion ERP / HCM, Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, Oracle Integration Cloud, Power BI, Power BI Server, and Power Apps is preferred
