Our organization is seeking a senior-level NoSQL Database Administrator for a high-impact, hands-on role supporting a mission-critical, customer-facing system. This position is focused on production operations, requiring a self-directed professional who can operate independently in a complex cloud environment. The role is fully remote, requires availability during Central Time, and involves participation in on-call rotations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own operational support and lifecycle management for DynamoDB and DAX environments.
  • Partner with application teams to design and validate DynamoDB data models, access patterns, and partition strategies.
  • Manage DynamoDB capacity planning, including on-demand vs. provisioned throughput, autoscaling, and cost optimization.
  • Support and operate DAX clusters, including cache behavior tuning and performance validation.
  • Collaborate with Cloud Engineering and DevOps teams using Terraform to provision and manage NoSQL resources.
  • Implement security controls including IAM-based access and encryption.
  • Monitor NoSQL environments, identifying performance bottlenecks and availability risks.
  • Support incident response and on-call rotations for production platforms.
  • Produce operational documentation, runbooks, and best practices for NoSQL usage.
Required Qualifications

Experience:

  • Senior-level experience with hands-on operational support of AWS DynamoDB in live production environments.
  • 2-4 years of hands-on use of Couchbase.
  • Practical experience supporting DynamoDB Accelerator (DAX) in production, including cache behavior and performance tuning.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, specifically using Terraform or similar tools to manage database infrastructure.
  • Proven experience supporting 24/7 platforms and participating in on-call rotations, including incident response and troubleshooting.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of NoSQL data modeling, access patterns, partitioning, and consistency models.
  • Knowledge of AWS cloud fundamentals, including IAM, CloudWatch, KMS, and VPC.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and communicate complex technical concepts effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Amazon DocumentDB or other MongoDB-compatible platforms.
  • Experience with Datadog for NoSQL monitoring, alerting, and dashboards.
  • Background in transitioning workloads from relational databases (MySQL/Postgres) to NoSQL platforms.
  • Familiarity with high-scale or multi-region application architectures.
