LOCATION : On Campus

WORK SCHEDULE : Monday to Friday 8 : 30am - 5 : 00pm

COMPENSATION : $127,729.14 / year + DOE, Benefits, Exempt Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION :

Under the supervision of the President, the Dean of Students provides leadership and supervision of programs so that students are successful from admissions through the term and their journey at the college. The Student Services Department goal is to support all students to reach their goal.

The Student Services departments include student academic supports, resources and advocacy, student housing, admissions and registration, and overall campus safety. Specific responsibilities include overseeing aspects of the following : Student Services, Student Life, Campus Safety including Title IX & Clery Act, Learning Resource Center, Retention & Persistence, Health & Accessibility Services, Recruitment, Pre-College Programming and Student Transportation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Designs, establishes, and maintains staffing and an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the department function; recruits, employs, trains, supervises, and evaluates department staff.  Ensures that frequent communications, listening, and responsive changes occur to meet the needs of students as well as day-to-day oversight.
  • Supports student retention practices to include program implementation, testing, personal advising, student orientation, student housing, and recreation. Has a continuous improvement mindset with staff, faculty and the community.
  • Collaborates with the HR Executive Director and Title IX Investigator(s) to identify and utilize best practices in Title IX case resolution and processes from beginning to end. Serves as the Title IX Coordinator, directs Title IX processes to include faculty and staff training, day-to-day management of student complaints and reported violations.
  • Collaborates and helps foster relationships between faculty, the Academic Affairs Department, and the Student Services team to strengthen student success in all areas from recruitment, advising, and retention activities to career placement and transfer.
  • Handles emergency and crisis situations that pertain to students and campus life.
  • Manages all phases of planning, creating and monitoring of budgets for assigned Student Services programs. Works closely with department leads to ensure grant management, fiscal oversight and meeting student outcomes. Manages key federal grants that are Student Services-focused.
  • Oversees the delivery of programs and activities that facilitate student opportunities for growth and meeting their goals
  • Uses data to improve or develop programs as needed and maintains awareness of student population issues, including alcohol / drugs, safety and security, health, transportation and fosters diversity awareness among students.
  • Coordinates on-call staff to provide general support to students through ongoing activities designed to address student needs, issues and concerns and may serve in the on-call rotation.
  • Formally assesses student needs periodically and ensures access for all students to support programs and overall student success.
  • Develops assessment tools, collects data, and provides reports that contribute to the understanding and improvement of student retention and completion, as well as provides a basis for external reporting on key metrics (stakeholders, accreditation, others).
  • Directs and oversees the annual implementation of summer camps (pre-college program) as it relates to : day and residential overnight camps, transportation, student advising, security, activities, budgets, solicitation of proposals and availability of teaching materials.
  • Coordinates with other departments in developing policies and maintaining the Student Handbook annually that represents the values of the College and addresses student achievement gaps.
  • Monitors compliance and fulfills annual reporting requirements under the Clery Act.
  • Works cooperatively and professionally with all college constituencies to achieve the College’s mission, goals, and outcomes.
  • Provide information to the Iḷisaġvik College Board of Trustees as directed by the President.
  • Maintains current knowledge of changing trends and legal developments regarding student development issues.
  • Serves on College advisory committees, local agencies, and other entities as directed by the President.
  • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES :

  • Ability to inspire and nurture staff to work together to build and sustain outstanding student support  programs with the capacity for growth.
  • Effective oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and make progress amidst competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with persistence and retention through the application and use of data and best practices (especially for nontraditional and / or underserved student populations).
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College, with a demonstrated understanding of knowledge of community and tribal colleges, and working with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
  • Ability to articulate College mission, vision, and academic programs in a succinct, compelling multi-cultural manner, with the ability to work well with many different cultures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Title IX of the Higher Education Act, laws and rules related to sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, gender and interpersonal violence, sexual assault and Title IX investigation process.
  • Employee development, mentoring  and performance management skills.
  • Ability to make administrative / procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel periodically.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • EDUCATION / / CERTIFICATES / TRAINING [Required] :

  • Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Leadership, Management, Counseling, or similar field.
  • Three years college level experience and administration.
  • Five years professional supervisory experience.
  • EDUCATION / CERTIFICATES / TRAINING [Preferred] :

  • PhD in Counseling, Psychology, Social Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Leadership, Management or related field.
  • Two years of demonstrated teaching experience at the instructor level or above in a post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum of seven years demonstrated directly related professional experience working with students in a post-secondary environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Iḷisaġvik College offers health insurance to our employees with a no cost premium, and $50 / pay period for each additional dependent and a low cost annual deductible of $200 for employee only and $600 for family.

    Life Insurance - Iḷisaġvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000 / per benefit.
