The Department Manageris responsible for overall team member engagement for those in spanof care. The leader will be responsible for driving recognition,feedback and coaching, performance management, training anddevelopment, and succession planning. The Department Manager willdirect Leads and Team Leaders, while ultimately being accountablefor area operations and financials (shrink, productivity, safety,scheduling & forecasting staffing needs, and team member andcustomer conflict resolution). The Department Manager will work toidentify and implement process improvements as well as serve as asteward of the Meijer culture.

WhatYou’ll be Doing :

  • Engageswith team members in span of care to ensure they are receivingappropriate onboarding, training and development, and coaching andfeedback to be successful in all theydo.
  • Identifies talent and engages in careerdiscussions to support overall store staffing and ensure adiversified talent pipeline strategy for team member as well asleadership roles.
  • Involvement in candiddiscussions with team members to ensure Meijer standards are upheldand team members have the ability to grow within theorganization.
  • Accountability for areaoperations and financial results by overseeing the execution ofcorporate plans to ensure all services and products are effectivelymanaged in order to maximize sales and productivity ultimatelyowning budget line items in the P&L.
  • Drivessafety and compliance throughout the store in addition to overallcondition management as well as responsibility for following allcompliance procedures in the store.
  • Ensures theTeam Leaders and Leads are providing guidance and assigning dailywork assignments for team members as well as any trainingneeds.

  • Bachelor’sdegree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 4+years of retail / grocery or customer serviceexperience.
  • Progressive leadership experiencepreferred.

  • Demonstrated ability toanalyze financial and statistical information and use thatinformation to make informeddecisions.
