POSITION SUMMARY
The designer is responsible for creating fiber designs, outside plant (OSP) designs, permit drawings, route maps, basemaps, splicing documents, and other deliverables as required by our projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
tCreates designs using industry standards, client guidelines, manufacturer specifications, and Squan standards.
tUses value-based engineering approach to make design / routing / environment decisions to create an efficient, quality, constructable permit drawing.
tCreates permit drawings taking into account Jurisdiction Having Authority (JHA) standards, client requirements, and Squan processes.
tCreates splicing documentation that is accurate.
tPosts as-built plant records based on construction daily reports and / or redline drawings.
tWorks closely with internal construction, peer designers or drafters, design lead, and design manager to ensure quality and timely delivery.
tDrives profitability by creating constructable, quality permits that meet jurisdiction requirements and will be granted approval.
tStays current with scope changes and understands the scope applicable to the work being performed.
tCommunicates with permit coordinators / design leads and keeps project tracker(s) current up to the hour.
tAdheres to the timelines for design, drafting, permit creation, quality control, and all other tasks.
tCollaborates with permit coordinator, design lead and design manager to overcome obstacles that prevent timely delivery of a quality product.
tFocuses on high level customer interaction to both internal and external customers.
tValidation of daily work received from the field to guarantee accuracy of both in-house and subcontractor deliverables where applicable.
tAttends meetings with design lead, design manager, or project manager as needed.
tMay be required to draw various polygons in GIS tools as required by the project scope.
tSubmits timesheets daily with the appropriate time coded to the project, aspect, and task.
tPerforms other duties as assigned by Design Lead or Design Manager
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
tAbility to follow a process and interpret JHA redlines, internal QA redlines, standards, guidelines, and requirements effectively.
tExcels at organization, time-management, problem-solving, communication, and attention to detail.
tEmploys a sense of urgency and has the ability to prioritize effectively.
tGood organizational skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, and track project development.
tStrong work ethic, leads by example, and does what it takes to get the job done.
tProficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and with various other software programs.
tAbility to communicate professionally at all times, with clarity, at the frequencies required by management and customers.
tTakes feedback well and has the ability to take said feedback and make sufficient adjustments.
tWork independently with minimal supervision.
tAbility to manage time based on production metrics.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
tMust be 18 or older.
tMust be proficient in AutoCAD.
tAble to work with minimal supervision and complete tasks assigned in a timely manner.
tValid drivers license and excellent driving record.
tMust be able to pass pre-employment drug test and background check.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
tBi-lingual (Spanish / English)
tBachelors degree in engineering, business administration, or a related degree
tTwo years of experience in telecommunication, OSP, or with a public or private utility.
