Other Conditions : Renewable annually upon the availability of Federal funds, temporary, pending availability of funds, with the possibility of extension, pending satisfactory performance, and actual staffing requirements. To begin approximately April 1, 2025.

Introduction : Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategy / Principal Investigator, the Workforce Development Coordinator supports the extramural project, Strengthening Chaminade University’s and Kapi‘olani Community College’s Capacity to Graduate Career and Workforce Ready Students. With delegated authority from Principal Investigator, this position assists with building sustainable institutional capacity to foster long-term economic mobility for students and local communities in Hawai?i. These activities include professional development, experiential learning opportunities, and aligning academic offierings with current workforce trends and demands.

This position will support broader institutional workforce development and undergraduate research experience goals under the supervision of the Undergraduate Research Experiences (URE) Coordinator / Co-Investigator.

Duties and Responsibilities (NOTE :

  • denotes Essential Functions)
  • Identifies, recruits, and maintains qualified industry leaders to serve on workforce advisory boards across designated sectors.
  • Serves as the primary liaison to cultivate strong relationships with board members, campus coordinators, community and industry partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinates a workforce-related summer research program for students and faculty from Kapi‘olani Community College and Chaminade University of Hawai‘i.

Oversees all aspects of program logisitics, execution, and evaluation, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for participants including research activities, workshops, and mentoring sessions, culminating in a final symposium.

  • Works with campus stakeholders to establish sustainable industry internships and job shadowing opportunities for students that align with institutional priorities.
  • Facilitates faculty and student development initiatives with campus programs to integrate professional skills and technology and career readiness through a traditional knowledge perspective.

  • Assists the PI and Project Director with project expenditures and procurement, following sponsor requirements and project-specific guidelines.
  • Oversees, prepares, and monitors fiscal expenditures reports. Liaises with the Business Office and other administrative units to ensure that UH internal procedures and policies are followed in alignment with sponsor-specific guidelines.

    Assists the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators with gathering required project data for sponsor reporting.

    Assists the PI and Co-Is with the writing and submission of performance reports. Facilitates the development and implementation of an effective and objective evaluation system of the project components and the impact on the institution.

    Attends meetings with Title III consortium partners at Chaminade University representing Kapi?olani Community College.

    Develops and maintains effective public relations and communication strategies by planning, designing, and developing the program’s website, social media, print materials, and e-mail listservs consistent with the program and College’s branding standards.

    Supports broader institutional workforce development and undergraduate research goals at the college.

    Minimum Qualifications Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business, Education, Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities, Public Health & Adminstration, or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program management, career support, or workforce development or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and / or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

    Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of program management, career support, or workforce development programs as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.

    Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with program management, career support or workforce development programs.

    Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.

    Demonstrated ability to interpret and present complex information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

    Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.

    Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, and must possess strong computer skills with commonly used professional software programs such as Google Suite / Microsoft Office, Adobe, Zoom, and other communications, project management, or creative technologies.

    For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

    Demonstrated previous experience working with communities in Hawai?i.

    Demonstrated previous experience in grant management, evaluation, and report writing.

    Demonstrated ability to work outside normally scheduled work hours including nights and weekends as required.

    Desirable Qualifications Possession of a Master's degree in Counseling, Business, Education, Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities, or Public Health & Adminstration.

    At least one year of professional experience developing and implementing internships and job shadowing opportunities, especially within Hawai?i or the University of Hawai?i system.

    At least one year of professional experience working with diverse student populations, specifically Indigenous populations, that include at-risk, socio-economically disadvantaged, under-represented, and / or non-traditional students.

    Knowledge of Native Hawaiian or indigenous cultures, language, protocols, history educational programs, issues, and resources.

    At least one year of professional experience working with Native Hawaiian students at the post-secondary level or advocacy work within Native Hawaiian communities, agencies, and organizations.

    Demonstrated knowledge of Kapi?olani Community College’s mission as it relates to becoming a leading indigenous-serving higher education institution as well as academic programs and student support services and campus resources.

    At least one year of professional experience with marketing outreach with demonstrated ability to work with Canva or similar creative tools, video editing, web development, social media.

    At least one year of professional experience with project and / or grant management, especially within the University of Hawai?i system.

    At least one year of professional experience with University of Hawai?i procurement systems such as RCUH and KFS.

    At least one year of professional experience with undergraduate research experiences.
