The academic programs that the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing offers include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Science, a Master of Science in Nursing Science, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nursing Science.
Your Role on the Team
Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance, the incumbent serves as chief fiscal officer for the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing and provides high level financial management, including strategic planning and administrative leadership. Oversees permanent and temporary allocations of all fund sources including : general funds, professional and self-supporting program fees, gifts and endowments, sales and services, clinical practice, graduate student block, and contracts and grants. Directs all financial functions of the school : develop systems, reports, and analyses to support management decision-making needs; provides guidance for department and administrative unit managers; sets standards for and oversees internal controls. Trains new finance staff and new faculty on finance workflows and policies. Monitors expenditures and apprises school leadership of areas of concern. Serves on dean's leadership team to provide financial reporting and budget forecasting and modeling and to advise on allocations for operations and student block funding. Plans, directs, and evaluates the work of staff involved in the day-to-day financial and procurement operations of the school. Contributes to new degree program development and strategic planning. Works in collaboration with research administration team on best practices for pre- and post-award grant management and clinical nursing team on clinical faculty practice as they relate to financial systems and workflows.
Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Manages, prepares, administers, and directs control of budget / organization resources. Manages the activities of the financial / resource analyst staff. Reviews and approves recommendations for financial planning and control. Monitors division and department adherence to approved budget. Provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules. Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required :
- Comprehensive knowledge of University finance and budget policies, practices and systems; budgeting and reporting techniques; fund accounting; human resource planning; financial control, accounting, and bookkeeping; income statement preparation and concepts
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally (to individuals and groups) and in writing.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels; ability to interact with diverse populations.
- Client services oriented; good listening, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Ability to multi-task and attention to detail.
- Knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
- 7+ years of experience in business administration and / or finance.
