Job description

Human Resources Generalist

Adventist Health Portland is seeking a Human Resources Generalist for a full-time position with 8-hour day shifts. We are looking for a qualified and dedicated individual who is able to work onsite at our Portland, OR location.

Provides professional-level support across a range of HR functions, including employee relations, policy interpretation, compliance, and data-informed decision-making. Serves as a first-line HR resource for leaders and employees, helping ensure the consistent application of HR policies and practices at the departmental or operational unit level. Exercises independent judgment in handling confidential issues, conducting initial investigations, and advising on corrective action within established frameworks. Matters involving broader impact, precedent-setting decisions, or strategic workforce planning are escalated to HR Business Partner's (HRBP or Sr. HRBP). This role plays a critical part in supporting operational excellence while aligning with HR guidance and system standards.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Typically requires 24 years of progressive HR experience, preferably within the healthcare industry. Internal candidates with less experience may be considered based on demonstrated performance, potential, and alignment with role expectations, subject to review and approval by the Network HR Director and CHRO: Preferred

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as a first-line advisor to leaders and employees on a wide range of HR matters, including policy interpretation, performance concerns, and basic workforce planning needs. Conducts initial assessments of employee relations concerns and lead low-to-moderate risk investigations; escalate high-risk or precedent-setting issues to HRBP's. Provides guidance on corrective actions and documentation in alignment with established policy and best practices.
  • Analyzes HR data and trends to inform recommendations for local operational improvements; flag strategic or system-level issues to HRBP's.
  • Supports the execution of HR initiatives, including performance management, onboarding, engagement, and compliance training, under the direction of HRBP's.
  • Assists with local workforce planning discussions by providing relevant data, historical trends, and policy-based recommendations.
  • Collaborates on cross-functional HR projects with a focus on implementation and process adherence, rather than program design. Maintains compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Organizational Requirements:
