Director Of Carbon Engineering
Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced Director of Carbon Engineering. This role will be responsible for overseeing the Program Engineering teams in Pueblo, CO; Spokane, WA; and Santa Fe Springs, CA, The Pueblo Dyno Test Lab Department and the Carbon R&D Department in Pueblo. The three Carbon sites are referred to as Associate Manufacturing Facilities (AMF) as part of Troy, OH Landing Systems. The D-CE and staff provide timely and effective engineering support for production programs at all three AMF sites while liaising with Carbon Engineering, AMF Operational and Quality teams, Collins research Centers, Troy Engineering Teams, Troy Value Stream Teams and pertinent suppliers.
The D-CE and staff own the responsibility to manage and / or oversee all technical activities related to carbon brake production product integrity, brake refurbishment programs, product / process investigations, ECNs, MRB support, developing and implementing 3-site standard work, providing day-to-day manufacturing support, qualifying New Product Introduction (NPI) programs, the qualification of new raw material, process-product changes and equipment prior to production implementation, Dyno testing and all Carbon R&D activities including technology strategic planning, and the development of new technologies, designs and processes to ensure future competitiveness. The D-CE and direct reports plan, organize, direct and control all departmental operations and personnel while meeting safety, product integrity, quality, on-time delivery, export, financial, and continuous improvement goals.
What You Will Do :
- Leads and directs site-based AMF Program Engineering Senior Managers, Carbon R&D Associate Director and the Dyno Test Lab Manager that report to this position and their respective teams.
- Responsible for Carbon Strategic Technology planning and execution of key Carbon R&D initiatives, including annual technology reviews and Techfest leadership for heat sink related technologies.
- Responsible for managing invention disclosure and intellectual property programs for Carbon Engineering.
- Responsible for all Carbon Engineering capex initiatives.
- Responsible for all production QARTO testing (supports release of production lots with Quality Assurance) and all pertinent Engineering Dyno testing.
- Responsible for ensuring carbon product health & integrity by managing the production specification and approval processes for legacy programs, new technology and NPI qualifications from raw material to end of life.
- Responsible for maintaining proactive process and product oversight to ensure that planned or unplanned process shifts do not negatively impact product performance or acceptance.
- Responsible for overseeing and conducting process-performance health updates, data mining, statistical analysis and product / process investigations.
- Supports and drives Engineering, SCM, Quality and Operational initiatives.
- Maintains a high level of compliance expectations (product integrity, export, ethics, EH&S, etc.).
- Maintains a high level of OTD focus, drive for results and self-accountability, while maintaining a people-centric culture.
- Requires strong administrative, project management, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Responsible for Program Engineering RTX CORE activities.
- Requires the ability to deal with high levels of complex, technical ambiguity associated with tribological applications and the fortitude to forge new paths of fundamental understanding.
- Responsible for developing standard work and automating analytical capabilities where possible.
- Responsible for multi-site department budgets and administration.
- Actively attracts key talent, strong developer of employees, prepares leadership succession plans.
- Partners with Collins Global Engineering Centers, Troy Engineering and Collins Fellows to leverage resources and knowledge to support Carbon Engineering technology needs.
- Travel : 10-20%; predominantly domestic travel.
