Job description

Description

The Arizona State University’s College of Health Solutions (CHS) innovative Doctor of Behavioral Health (DBH) program seeks a full-time, 12-month, non-tenured clinical assistant professor. As the first degree program in the country to focus on integrated healthcare, the DBH program at ASU's College of Health Solutions represents the university's deliberate investment to improve health outcomes by promoting integrated medical and behavioral health.

The DBH program offers advanced learning opportunities in behavioral interventions, medical literacy, management, and entrepreneurship. The DBH program is a global, interdisciplinary degree program that offers an innovative curriculum, direct patient care internship experience in an integrated primary care placement, and an applied quality improvement project for domestic and international students. This degree is designed for those with prior clinical training and experience, as well as those who aspire to leadership and clinical roles in integrated healthcare. The program works to address complex and difficult health problems that require transformative collaboration, translational research, and innovation.

Responsibilities for this position include leading the applied research projects (including stakeholder engagement and internship management), course instruction, and providing service to the university, college, and relevant degrees. Applicants must present evidence of teaching experience and a strong commitment to high-quality teaching at the undergraduate / graduate levels.

The anticipated workload for this role is 70% teaching (DBH course instruction including applied project mentorship), 10% clinical practice / scholarship, and 20% service. This is a fixed-term appointment that is renewable annually. Subsequent one-year appointments may be offered, under the same terms and conditions, at the discretion of the college and university.

At ASU and the College of Health Solutions, we work to maximize opportunities for people of diverse backgrounds, abilities and perspectives. We value and encourage inclusive excellence as outlined in our ASU, and strive to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all faculty, staff and students — which we believe is critical to our success as a community. All individuals who can strengthen our academic community are encouraged to apply, and will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other basis protected by law.

About the College of Health Solutions

The College of Health Solutions is committed to translating scientific health research and discovery into practice to improve health outcomes through education, research, and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business, and application of diagnostics. Our research programs encompass basic science, discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science, and measurement of health outcomes. In all cases, our faculty use interdisciplinary approaches to address the complex systems that underpin health problems. We are highly collaborative, transparent, and team-oriented. Our innovative organizational structure includes translational teams that move science from labs into communities with evidence-based interventions that make a difference, as well as affinity networks where teams of people work together to improve methodologies and processes. All of our programs, in and out of the classroom, are designed with the goal of improving the health of people and communities.

Current training programs include behavioral health, biomedical diagnostics, biomedical informatics, exercise science, health promotion, health sciences, kinesiology, medical studies, nutrition, population health, the science of health care delivery, and speech and hearing science. Our programs are offered at the ASU Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West, and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s campus in north Phoenix.

CHS is also excited to be an integral component of the newly launched ASU Health, which will convene and strengthen all health-related endeavors across ASU, including a new medical school, ASU Health Clinics, health-focused research, and other academic programs, to position ASU as a top university for health-related careers and research.
