Job Summary
The Diabetes Educator has advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in Diabetes and is responsible for providing group instruction to patients with pre-diabetes, diabetes and gestational diabetes. Provides medical nutrition therapy as ordered. Ensures patients receive accurate and updated information according to the National Standards for Diabetes Education.
Essential Functions
Provides updated instruction to patients regarding management of diabetes, pre-diabetes, and gestational diabetes and documents the patients’ plan of care and reaction to instruction.
Develops, implements and evaluates diet and nutrition curriculum for education materials using evidence based practiced strategies.
Participate with program lead to educate and market the Outpatient Diabetic Program with Beaumont physicians, APNs, and nursing staff.
Assist with department objectives, tools, policies and procedures development.
Acts as a liaison between patient, family, multidisciplinary team, and physician.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's Degree from four-year College or university.
American Dietetic Association (ADA) approved dietetic internship or equivalent.
2 years of relevant experience Two (2) years’ experience as a dietitian / nutrition in a clinical or hospital setting.
CRT-Registered Dietitian (RD) - CDR Commission on Dietetic Registration Upon Hire.
