The Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for providing technical guidance relating to the environment, health and safety of Zahner facilities in Kansas City, Grand Prairie, and any field site locations with Zahner employees or contractors present. The EHS Manager is responsible for developing and implementing the facilities' safety management systems including hazard identification, risk assessments, mitigation planning and project implementation, development of procedures, compliance auditing, and compliance reporting. Additionally, the EHS Manager is tasked with design, pre-planning, and all EHS related management of field operations and capital projects.

Essential Duties :

  • Proactively works to drive positive performance, constant awareness, and continuous improvement in our safety culture.
  • Partners with manufacturing and field operations leaders, facilitating the maintenance of safe, healthy and environmentally friendly working conditions in accordance with OSHA and EPA guidelines.
  • Partners with AWI Regional EHS Manager with integration into AWI EHS systems and leading indicators.
  • Trains and educates employees in the required safety procedures, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout / tagout (LOTO), ergonomics, mobile equipment and environmental concerns such as waste and hazardous materials handling.
  • Actively participates as a member of the operations team to drive resolution of common cause and special cause issues that negatively impact safety, quality, cost, and productivity.
  • Provides technical assistance to facility and field operations leaders on a proactive basis in terms of environmental, health, and safety.
  • Establishes annual safety and environmental calendars.
  • Owns accident / incident investigation and case / situation management as needed, recommending corrective actions and managing to completion.
  • Manages facilities' hazardous and waste programs.
  • Identifies and executes improvements in the plants and field operations environmental / safety systems and procedures.
  • Leads, manages, and facilitates completion of hazard identification and risk assessments.
  • Ensures that process safety related documentation for all identified hazards is developed and maintained including Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documentation.
  • Identifies safety training needs and provides training through in-house resources or external consultancy.
  • Transfers technical knowledge where appropriate to elevate organization understanding and performance.
  • Ensures compliance with facility environmental permit or environmental compliance requirements.
  • Serves as an on-call site contact when needed.
  • Manages each worker's compensation claim and potential claim, working with our third-party administrators and others to ensure favorable company outcomes whenever possible.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • A bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related technical discipline OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting environment, health & safety affairs in a manufacturing / fabrication environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations including both general industry and construction.
  • Knowledge of and experience with safety compliance as detailed above
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with incident investigation to include root cause analysis (i.e. 5-Why).
  • Demonstrated ability to meet Key Performance Indicators and other performance objectives.
  • Solid document management and recordkeeping approach with ability to leverage technology to support process improvements, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Project management experience or certification, preferred.
  • Facilitation / formal training delivery skills and experience, preferred.
  • Experience designing and creating training materials, preferred.
  • Experience with the management or coordination of workers compensation claims.
  • Professional designation of CSP, ASP / GSP, CRSP or CRST, preferred.
  • Safety management experience in a commercial construction environment, preferred.
