Job Description : Client Scientific's Clinical Diagnostics Fremont location is seeking an EHS Specialist I who will be responsible for supporting the Environmental Health and Safety initiatives for the site. EHS Specialist I role is a hands-on individual contributor who will support EH&S program with various departments within the Fremont site.
Key Responsibilities :
Maintain EHS policies, programs and procedures that ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and corporate standards. Some of these programs include the site Injury Illness & Prevention Program, Hazardous Communication Plan, BioSafety Program, Chemical Hygiene Plan, and Ergonomics Program.
Be a safety advocate. Proactively look for opportunities to improve safety programs and educate and inspire employees to do the same. Drive and implement changes as needed.
Keep current with Federal, State, and Local regulations.
Serve as a technical resource to the site in areas of EHS compliance, risk management, hazardous materials / waste, industrial hygiene, industrial safety, and / or ergonomics.
Hold Safety meetings including the site's Safety Committee and ERT. Lead monthly Gemba walks identifying opportunities related to EH&S.
Oversee all Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health related training (New Hire Safety Orientation, BBP, Hazardous Waste Management, Chemical Hygiene, etc.) including new hire orientation and refresher training as required.
Coordinate handling / removal of hazardous materials and waste (profile waste streams, maintain manifests, and reconcile reports for environmental reporting.
Perform periodic audits to identify potential environmental and workplace hazards, program deficiencies, and liabilities. Manage inspections from Union Sanitary District, Alameda County Health Department, Fire Department, County Hazmat, Insurance carrier, etc.
Oversee the site's Hazard ID, Accident and Incident reporting process. Participate in incident investigations, ensuring root cause and countermeasure identification is completed to eliminate future injury. Review and analyze accident data to identify trends or areas requiring additional focus.
Oversee reporting of all EHS metrics and KPl's both at the site and corporate level.
Maintain routine safety and environmental reports and records (OSHA logs, HMBP, SDSs, etc.).
Assist with changes to manufacturing / office areas to ensure established safety standards are met.
Drive a focus on safety utilizing lean tools (5S, Gemba, Visual Management, root cause analysis, kaizen, etc.) Minimum Requirements / Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or related scientific discipline such as Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering
2 to 5 years in an EH&S role, preferably in the FDA regulated / medical device industry. Professional certification preferred but not required.
Innovation : Sound working knowledge of regulations pertaining to EH&S and related compliance requirements with strong attention to details. Ability to proactively anticipate and resolve regulatory questions, to meet expected timelines for regulatory requirements.
Working knowledge and experience in basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, Outlook and Microsoft Project.
Involvement : Safety involves all areas of the business. Perform routine responsibilities independently and mentor others with creativity and minimal supervision. Ability to lead and facilitate projects to conclusion. Adapt to changes in the work environment and demonstrate flexibility.
