Job Summary

The Assistant Softball Coach supports the Head Softball Coach in the development and implementation of a competitive and well-rounded softball program. This position assists with coaching, instruction, and supervision of student-athletes while promoting a positive team culture aligned with the district's mission of "Experience Excellence." The Assistant Coach helps foster student-athlete growth, sportsmanship, and academic success while ensuring compliance with all district and TSSAA regulations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  1. Assist the Head Softball Coach in organizing and implementing all aspects of the softball program.
  2. Support the development of program goals and contribute to achieving competitive success.
  3. Assist in instructing student-athletes in fundamental skills, techniques, and strategies of softball.
  4. Help plan and conduct effective practices and drills.
  5. Provide individual and group instruction to enhance player development.
  6. Encourage academic achievement and monitor student-athlete eligibility.
  7. Build positive relationships with student-athletes and serve as a role model.
  8. Promote teamwork, discipline, leadership, and sportsmanship.
  9. Understand and follow all TSSAA rules, regulations, and district policies.
  10. Model and reinforce ethical behavior and good sportsmanship.
  11. Assist in maintaining accurate records, including attendance and eligibility documentation.
  12. Assist with scheduling, practice coordination, and facility setup.
  13. Help manage equipment, uniforms, and inventory.
  14. Support game-day operations, including supervision of athletes and preparation of facilities.
  15. Assist with transportation coordination as directed.
  16. Maintain open communication with the Head Coach, Athletic Director, players, and parents.
  17. Support team and program communication efforts.
  18. Work cooperatively with other school staff and athletic programs.
  19. Attend games, practices, meetings, and professional development as required.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous playing and/or coaching experience in softball or a related sport preferred.
  • Knowledge of softball fundamentals, rules, and strategies.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, staff, and community.
  • Commitment to promoting academic success and positive character development.
  • Must meet all district employment requirements, including background check and fingerprinting.

  • The position also requires effective communication with parents and colleagues to support the holistic development of students and ensure alignment with school goals. Collaboration with other staff members will be essential to ensure a cohesive experience for all students.
