About the Role: Aviation Electronics, Electrical, and Computer Systems Technicians (AV) play a vital role in maintaining advanced aircraft systems. These professionals are responsible for diagnosing and repairing intricate electrical and electronic equipment that supports essential functions like radar, communications, navigation, and weapons systems. Additionally, AV Sailors have the opportunity to volunteer as Naval Aircrewmen, operating radar and weapons systems during flight operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and repair advanced aircraft systems, including digital computers, fiber optics, radar, infrared detection, and laser electronics.
- Maintain aircraft electrical power generation and distribution systems.
- Test and calibrate instruments and automatic flight control systems.
- Perform micro-miniature circuit card repairs.
- Install upgrades and modifications to aircraft electronic systems.
- Operate diagnostic equipment and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
Work Environment: AV technicians work in diverse aviation environments across the globe. Tasks may be performed in hangars, aboard aircraft carriers, electronics labs, or outdoors on flight lines. You will collaborate closely with fellow aviation professionals and often take on responsibilities with a high degree of autonomy.
Training & Advancement:
- Complete Class 'A' Technical School (18-26 weeks) covering aviation fundamentals, electrical systems, and hands-on technical training.
- After school, Sailors are assigned to either the AE or AT rating and may serve at naval air stations, aviation squadrons, or aboard carriers.
- Opportunities for advanced technical training are available for specific aircraft and mission systems.

Qualifications:
