Purpose of PositionPlans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal parts, equipment, and products.
Tasks and Responsibilities- Competent in subject matter, principles, knowledge, and concepts; generally considered a specialist in area. Able to perform full scope of activities associated with job which includes the most difficult aspects. Able to train complex skills to lower level technicians.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
- Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts, or uses templates.
- Sets up and operates fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials.
- Shapes metal material over anvil, block, or other form.
- Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces.
- Welds, solders, bolts, rivets, screws, clips, caulks, or bonds component parts to assemble products.
- Installs assemblies in supportive framework according to blueprints.
- Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications. Repairs and maintains sheet metal products.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Minimum Experience8 years of experience.
Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesPC knowledge, Microsoft word, excel, and data entry. Syteline and QMS familiarity desired.Experienced (aviation related preferred) in a shop environment using hand tools, wood and metal working equipment proficiently skilled in assembly or production enough to provide instruction to related practices. Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines.
Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentThe employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently left and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
