Reno-Sparks Indian Colony: Our Mission
The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes—Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands include the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno and a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. The RSIC is a vibrant and growing organization that honors traditional teachings and cultural heritage while embracing modern business practices and innovative governance. What it's like to be a Assistant Emergency Manager at Assistant Emergency Manager
As a Full Time Assistant Emergency Manager at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a critical role in providing both technical and administrative support to the Emergency Manager. This position involves assisting with emergency mitigation, response planning, training, and the implementation of vital recovery strategies. You will be responsible for training staff on disaster and emergency procedures, ensuring that everyone is well-prepared for any situation that may arise.
Additionally, you will manage emergencies in the absence of the Emergency Manager, stepping in to lead effectively and uphold the community's safety standards. This dynamic role offers the chance to make a tangible impact on the community's preparedness and resilience efforts.

To excel as a Full Time Assistant Emergency Manager at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a diverse skill set and relevant experience. A high school diploma or GED is essential, alongside a current CPR basic certification; candidates should either be certified instructors or willing to obtain certification within two years of hire. Experience in emergency management activities, particularly in an administrative role for at least one year, is crucial, as is proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, and the ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment.
Experience working with volunteers and emergency operations is desirable. Additionally, the role requires the capability to develop and deliver training programs to RSIC staff, LEPC, and the community on emergency-related topics. A valid Nevada Driver’s License is mandatory, and applicants must qualify under RSIC’s motor vehicle insurance carrier.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Must be a high school graduate or GED equivalent.
- Must have current CPR basic certification and be a CPR certified instructor or be able to obtain instructor certification within two years of date of hire.
- Experience in emergency management activities with one year in a responsible administrative position and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite for example, word, excel, power point etc. Previous experience with working with volunteers and emergency operations is desired.
- Ability to work within team concept with employees and community.
- Strong communication skills: both orally and written.
- Ability to develop and provide training to RSIC staff LEPC and community on emergency related topics. Must obtain Instructor and HSPEEP certifications within two years of date of hire.
- Must have a valid Nevada Driver’s License. Must qualify under RSIC motor vehicle insurance carrier.
