The Position

The City of Riverside Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of Emergency Medical Services Coordinator to fill one (1) current vacancy for this positionThe eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and / or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.

Under general supervision of the EMS Captain, Emergency Medical Services Coordinators manage and oversee all aspects of the City's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program within the Fire Department; develop, recommend, implement and evaluate objectives, policies, procedures and operating standards; administer, coordinate, evaluate and participate in the technical and administrative operations of the Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Program within the public safety dispatch center; and perform related work as required.

Work Performed

Duties include but are not limited to the following :

• Oversee and monitor EMS program operation and personnel for compliance with state and local laws and regulations; evaluate legislation as it pertains the EMS program; perform contract compliance audits as necessary.

Review, monitor and revise continuing education program course content to ensure employees meet state and national requirements; conduct and / or schedule and coordinate training.

Develop, administer and monitor the EMS program budget; participate in the forecast of funds needed for equipment, material and supplies; coordinate the maintenance and replacement of EMS equipment; purchase equipment, materials and supplies as necessary.

Investigate complaints and inquiries related to EMS; oversee, recommend and coordinate corrective action.

Develop and maintain positive communications and working relationships with other departments, divisions, and outside agencies and organizations; represent the Fire Department on all state and local EMS activities; research, prepare and present various reports and public presentations related to the City's EMS program.

Assist in the testing, evaluation and selection of personnel; train all new paramedics and emergency medical technicians.

Manage the City's Ambulance Franchise contract and monitor the performance of ambulance contractors operating within the City of Riverside.

Participate in developing ongoing dispatcher training programs and curriculum for the Emergency Medical Dispatch program; facilitate Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training and other mandatory training as required for EMD dispatchers.

Evaluate the knowledge and skills of Public Safety Dispatchers in the area of Emergency Medical Dispatch through observation, and by administering written and practical exams to ensure performance standards.

Monitor Emergency Medical Dispatch Program operation and personnel for compliance with state and local laws and regulations; evaluate legislation which impacts the EMD programs.

Review and evaluate emergency medical dispatch calls on a monthly basis for quality control purposes.

Review, revise, recommend and implement new or existing policies, procedures and operating standards pertaining to dispatch center operations for the EMD program.

Report non-compliant personnel to Public Safety Communications Manager and develop strategies to improve performance.

Qualifications

Recruitment Guidelines :

OPTION I

License : Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.

Experience : Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital setting, one year of which must have been in an emergency department.

OPTION II

Certificate : Possession of a certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic), and possession of an Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate as defined by the American Heart Association.

Experience : Four years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic).

Necessary Special Requirements :

Attainment of an Advanced EMD Certification through the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch within the probationary period.

Possession of, or ability to obtain prior to appointment, a valid appropriate Class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Highly Desired Qualifications :

Qualified as a Riverside County Emergency Medical Service Agency Continuing Education provider or ability to obtain status during probation.

Possession of Designated Infectious Control Officer Certification or the ability to obtain during probation.
