The Dane County Alliant Energy Center has a Full-Time (1.0 FTE) vacancy for a Deputy Director – Events & Guest Services position in Madison, WI.

DEFINITION
Reporting to the Executive Center Director, the Deputy Director AEC – Event & Guest Services functions as a member of the Alliant Energy Center’s (AEC) Executive team. The incumbent is involved in matters related to all aspects of the entire AEC organization and operation, including short and long-term planning.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Primary responsibilities include :
- Budgeting, hiring, training and administration of full and part-time personnel or contractors;
- Scheduling and staffing for events and their set up and tear down;
- Event coordination and management;
- Related decorating services for in-house revenue generating efforts;
- Event sales and marketing oversight;
- Inventory and equipment control and ordering;
- Public safety;
- Numerous other matters related to the presentation of over 200 events for approximately a half million visitors per year.
Must deliver appropriate service to customers and visitors within budget and other contractual guidelines.
Education, Experience & Special Requirements
Education, Training and Experience :
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience at a multipurpose facility (stadium, arena, event center, convention center, etc.), or five (5) years of experience managing a high-population, multi-facility campus.
Special Requirements :
Must be available and willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Must have a valid driver’s license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent.

For Bilingual Positions :
Provide services in both English and the required foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Hmong, etc.). This will primarily consist of passing an oral language proficiency assessment from English to foreign language and foreign language to English, but may require additional language testing, such as written translation, if it is an essential function of the job.
Physical and Environmental Work Environments :
Combination of a business environment with an office and desk and meetings with clients and staff. Must be able to access all areas of the 165-acre campus and its facilities. Must be willing and able to move throughout the property including significant walking and stair climbing. Must be able to stand for extended periods. Must be comfortable with crowds and dealing with potentially confrontational guests, clients or staff members.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Considerable knowledge in personnel management procedures, supervisory techniques and methods, and principles affecting event management and administration of multi-purpose public assembly facilities. Senior-level skills in directing, training, and supervising event planners, sales staff, as well as other members of events and guest service staff. Knowledge of terminology used in the convention, trade show, and entertainment industry, as well as significant experience working within these industries. Knowledge of principles and methods of setting up and tearing down events of a large public facility, exhibiting, and show utilities (e.g., special lighting, booth wiring, compressed air, etc.). Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to public assembly facilities including security, fire and safety regulations. Demonstrated superb supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to advise, interpret and apply policies and procedures. Ability to work well with others, think critically and analytically, manage simultaneous projects, successfully meet constantly changing deadlines and coordinate work schedules. Ability to adapt to flexible organizational styles. Ability to efficiently use several types of software and equipment including USI, AutoCAD, Social Tables, and audio / visual equipment. Strong oral and written communication skills and an ability to provide exceptional customer service and supervise the simultaneous production of convention, trade show, entertainment, sporting and other events at the same facility.
