Job description

Senior Project Manager

Ameresco, Inc. is a leading energy solutions provider dedicated to helping customers reduce costs, enhance resilience, and decarbonize to net zero in the global energy transition. We are a trusted, full-service partner to public sector and government entities, K-12 schools, higher education, utilities, and healthcare customers across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Europe.

At Ameresco, we show the way by developing, constructing and operating tailored smart energy efficiency solutions, distributed energy resources, and infrastructure upgrades that drive cost savings, resilience, decarbonization, and innovation. Our comprehensive portfolio is built to address the challenges of today and adapt the future, ensuring long-term sustainability and success for our customers.

Ameresco has an immediate opening for a Senior Project Manager. Senior Project Managers are expected to operate independently, lead by example, and represent Ameresco professionally on active job sites, with clients, regulatory agencies, and subcontract partners. This is a permanent position with Ameresco and plays a key role in our continued growth and success in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of OSHA and WISHA construction safety requirements. Maintain OSHA 30 certification at minimum (OSHA 500 preferred or a demonstrated commitment to obtaining it).
  • Lead and enforce site-specific safety plans, ensuring Ameresco and all subcontractors comply with required safety standards and documentation.
  • Manage full lifecycle execution of EPC and Design-Build projects, including pre-construction services, construction phase oversight, and support of commissioning activities.
  • Supervise construction projects valued at $5M+, including S&C, MEP, ESP, lighting retrofits, central plant upgrades, BAS enhancements, PV and BESS installations, building envelope improvements, and industrial facility renovations.
  • Maintain consistent, effective communication with internal teams, subcontractors, clients, and inspectors to meet compliance and performance requirements.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, cash flow forecasts, and ongoing cost control strategies.
  • Build and maintain positive, long-term client relationships that support repeat work and program expansion.
  • Manage Procore documentation including RFIs, submittals, MDS documentation, daily reports, change orders, safety documentation, AHJ coordination, and closeout records.
  • Read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation across all project disciplines.
  • Coordinate general conditions and site requirements, including equipment rentals and site services.
  • Produce and distribute accurate daily reports, monitor subcontractor performance, and identify installation deficiencies.
  • Manage critical path schedules in Microsoft Project, including monthly updates and weekly three-week look-ahead schedules.
  • Coordinate permits, inspections, and third-party reviews as required.
  • Lead stakeholder meetings and generate clear, accurate meeting minutes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Project or Construction Management.
  • Proven history of successfully leading construction projects, including cost control, change management, critical path scheduling, and achieving substantial completion milestones on multi-million-dollar MEP renovations.

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of building systems including HVAC, lighting, controls, renewables, and water conservation technologies.
  • Proficiency with construction project management systems and scheduling tools.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing issued by the employee's state of residence is required.
  • Strong verbal, written, and technical communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, CEM, CMVP, or LEED AP are preferred.
  • Experience working in public-sector MUSH markets (K-12, higher education, municipal, and federal).
  • Knowledge of utility incentive programs and energy financing structures.
  • Experience with energy modeling, savings calculations, and measurement and verification protocols (IPMVP preferred).

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $121,000 - $194,000 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.

Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.

We disclose salary ranges and benefits in all required external and internal postings and will provide further details upon request at any stage of the hiring process. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
