Job Description
The Agency Instructor I, under direction, will assist in training various specialty skilled and / or semi-skilled courses within the Water Program. The Agency Instructor I will utilize their knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to help maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. The Agency Instructor I will perform online and / or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and / or may provide technical assistance. This position will also use a variety of media to present course materials and may assist in creating new and / or updating curriculum content, when necessary, to meet learner needs. This is a remote position. The Agency Instructor I is expected to maintain their technical competence and skills and will report to the Agency Training Manager.
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (equivalency : will consider an Associate's degree with six years of related experience in the operation, maintenance, design, construction, or regulation of water utility systems or a High School Diploma / GED with eight years of related experience in the operation, maintenance, design, construction, or regulation of water utility systems)
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, design, construction, or regulation of water utility systems
- TCEQ Sponsor Requirements
One year of experience in training adults, and 60 hours of classroom instructional experience OR
Completion of approved Instructor training courses in :
1. Methods of Teaching OR Effective Instructional Techniques
2. Instructional Design and Evaluation OR Organizational and Use of Training Materials

Provide classroom and field instruction for the Water and Wastewater Training Program - 80% :
Travels to remote locations and provides classroom instruction across the state as assigned by program supervisor (travel will frequently require multiple overnight stay(s))Ensures concerned parties, points of contacts, host organization, agencies, are contacted and notified of schedules, locations, and timesEnsures all training materials and training aids are prepared before class and secured and accounted for upon completion of the courseFollows approved curriculum course outline, performs all course exercises as explained in the Instructor GuideEnsures participants have achieved terminal objectives of the courseProvides the opportunity for participants to evaluate trainingAssists with course development and review as needed, recommends changes / updates to materialsMaintains subject matter expertise on water related topics of instructionAdministers course post-testingEnsures completion and collection of student attendance rosters, registration forms, pre-test / post-test, course evaluations, and delivery records formsPrepares class records and ensures that they are submitted in a timely fashion at the conclusion of the trainingEnsures class documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with division guidance, Agency, and contractual requirements (if applicable)Assist in the development and / or revision of the various water program courses as required- 10% :
Updates technical courses, conducts special training courses as assigned by the program supervisorDevelops course outlines for new or emerging treatment technologiesResearches, develops, and writes new instructional material in support of the Water Program and / or updates materials in support of other water related coursesEnsures that new instructional materials are reviewed as they become available to determine relevance with current coursesActively participates in team meetings and eventsProvide technical assistance and program support -10% :
Provides on-site technical assistance and one-on-one training to operators of water & wastewater treatment plants to assist in the improvement of water quality and the public healthAssists the Training Manager / Coordinator with customer interactionsAssists in the marketing of division programs and events to potential customers and studentsSubmits administrative paperwork to include timesheets and travel expenses / receipts within the required time frame per agency and division policyOther Duties :
