The Role

Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers maintains formats compiles and manipulates technical data such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation reports drawings (flow charts block diagrams and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation / reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

The SSN(X) Platform Mechanical team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineering technician to join our diverse dynamic and dedicated team. As a member of our team youll have the once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape critical functions and novel capabilities for the Navys next generation fast attack submarine.

The mechanical team is responsible for the concept design development and execution of complex mechanical systems across the non-propulsion areas of the submarine including payload launch and recovery control surfaces HVAC chill water masts and many others. You will team with the Navy and industry to develop these systems molding what will become the worlds most advanced and capable submarine.

Job Responsibilities :

Provide technical leadership and guidance to teams developing submarine mechanical systems

Guide the development of innovative new designs and provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team

Coordinate with Navy counterparts and conduct periodic briefs to the Navy and working groups

Strong background in submarine design with a comprehensive knowledge of the engineering and design process related to mechanical systems

Extensive knowledge in submarine systems and system integration

Experience in submarine construction and / or overhaul

Strong communication skills both written and verbal to support the development and presentation of technical reports and briefs to NNS leadership or the Navy and coordinating with vendors and industry partners

Must Have

Associates Degree and 6 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associates Degree to meet minimum qualifications :

• NNS Apprentice School graduate
• Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
• High School / GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing Shipbuilding Trades Military experience
• High School / GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing Shipbuilding Trades Military experience

Nice to Have

Preferred Qualifications :

Knowledge of submarine mechanical systems and how they interface with structural electrical and other mechanical systems

An understanding of an array of mechanical products such as hydraulic and electric actuators linkages / cam-sliders pumps and valves HVAC systems structural weldments welded or fastened joints and others

Experience in traditional and computer-based methodologies for the design and modeling of components

The ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture within a diverse set of team members and stakeholders

Exhibit an openness to continuous learning and development in a dynamic environment

Operational experience on commissioned or under construction Navy vessels is a plus
