The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician III to join our Winston-Salem 1 Construction team.
In this role, you will :
- Serve as a senior project roadway / structure inspector supporting senior engineers in the administration of highway construction contracts.
- Monitor contractor daily operations.
- Perform / review test reports to ensure all work and materials conform to specifications, plans, and contract documents.
- Perform contract administration, such as pay record entry / reviews, materials-received reports, certified payroll reviews, daily diary reviews, as-constructed plans preparation, and monthly quantity verifications prior to estimate payment.
- Resolve daily constructability issues and troubleshoot problems to mitigate delays to project delivery.
- Assist NCDOT staff and contractors in utility relocation efforts by inspecting and tracking relocation work.
- Anticipate contractual problems and advise engineering staff of needs for plan revisions, supplemental agreements, or other contract adjustments to improve safety, timely delivery, and / or quality of delivered projects.
- Monitor contractor operations to ensure compliance with subcontract agreements and with the contract Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) requirements.
- Ensure compliance with NC Sedimentation and Pollution Control Act and that all work performed in permitted areas is done in accordance with permits.
- Direct and schedule the work of junior technicians in staking out and inspecting every phase of a construction project to ensure it is built according to contract documents in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Manage all aspects of assigned construction projects with limited supervision from senior engineers and be directly involved with the leadership, management, counseling, and training of junior NCDOT and contractor technicians.
- Effectively communicate and coordinate work with contractors, subcontractors, utility owners, and property owners to minimize delays and disturbances while maximizing project progress.
