A Senior Architectural Designer with 10 years or more experience is typically a highly skilled and experienced professional who plays a crucial role in the design and execution of architectural projects. For this particular position, familiarity with Los Angeles building code, local development partners and AEC network is desired.

Qualities :

Design Excellence : A Designer 1 should have a strong passion for design and a demonstrated ability to create innovative and aesthetically pleasing architectural solutions. They should possess a deep understanding of design principles, materials, construction techniques, and building / zoning code requirements.

Technical Expertise : With extensive experience, Designers 1 should have a solid understanding of technical aspects of architecture, including building codes, regulations, and construction systems. They should be knowledgeable about sustainable design practices and emerging technologies.

Creativity and Innovation : Designers 1 should demonstrate a high level of creativity and the ability to think outside the box. They should bring fresh ideas and innovative design concepts to projects, pushing the boundaries of architectural design.

Leadership and Mentorship : As a senior member of the team, Designers 1 should exhibit strong leadership skills. They should be able to lead and guide design teams, provide mentorship to junior staff, and foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Communication and Collaboration : Effective communication is essential for Designers 1. They should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly articulate design concepts and ideas to clients, team members, and stakeholders. They should also be skilled in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and consultants.

Project Management : Designers 1 often have project management responsibilities. They should be adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating with various stakeholders, and ensuring projects are completed within timelines and budgets. They coordinate the team efforts with the Design Director, Project Architect and Project managers to make sure working efficiency is aligned with project scopes and profitability of the firm.

Client Relations : Designers 1 often interact directly with clients. They should have strong client relationship management skills, including the ability to understand client requirements, present design solutions effectively, and address client concerns.

Positive Attitude : Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards work. Demonstrate a strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and a commitment to contributing to the success of the architectural firm.

Responsibilities :

Design Development : Designers 1 are responsible for developing and refining design concepts and turning them into detailed architectural drawings. They oversee the design development process and ensure that the final design aligns with the project's goals and requirements.

Project Coordination : Designers 1 collaborate with other design professionals, including engineers and consultants, to coordinate the integration of various systems and components into architectural design. They ensure seamless coordination and integration of design elements.

Quality Control : Designers 1 are responsible for maintaining design quality throughout the project's lifecycle. They review and evaluate design work, provide constructive feedback, and ensure that the final design meets established standards and expectations.

Construction Documentation : Designers 1 review detailed construction drawings. They work closely with the project team to ensure that the documentation accurately represents the design intent and complies with relevant codes and regulations.

Software Proficiency : Designers 1 utilize 3D modeling software and visualization tools to create digital models, renderings, and presentations. They present design ideas to clients and stakeholders and use visualizations to communicate design concepts effectively. Have a basic understanding of architectural software tools, such as AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Sketch Up, Enscape , Photoshop, illustrator or other design and modeling software commonly used in the industry. Proficiency in these tools is essential.

Building Codes and Regulations : Designers 1 should have a solid understanding of local building codes and regulations. They ensure that the design complies with these requirements and coordinate with team members, authorities and institutions for necessary approvals and permits.

Design Research : Designers 1 may be responsible for conducting design research, exploring new materials and technologies, and staying updated with industry trends and best practices. They bring this knowledge to projects, enhancing the overall design quality.

Continuing Education : As experienced professionals, Designers 1 should actively pursue ongoing professional development and continuing education opportunities. They stay updated with advancements in design, technology, sustainability, and industry standards.

Mentoring and Knowledge Sharing : Designers 1 often mentor and guide junior talent. They share their knowledge and experience, provide guidance and feedback, and contribute to the professional growth of the team.
