Job descriptionDetecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers, including using surveillance during night operations Patrolling borders and coastal waterways using diverse government assets Interpreting and following physical evidence of illegal entry Conducting searches of detained individuals and vehicles for contraband Apprehending and collaborating with law enforcement for violations of laws Proficiency in firearms and investigative report preparation Using intelligence to track illegal activities and threats to national security Leading investigations of criminal activities Utilizing advanced technology for surveillance and apprehensions Citizenship : U.S. Citizen Residency : Must have primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years Age Restriction : Candidates must be referred for selection before reaching 40 years old, with exceptions for veterans and prior law enforcement experience.

If you have prior law enforcement or military police experience, you may qualify for higher-salaried roles within our premier federal agency dedicated to securing our borders and protecting our nation.
Exciting Opportunity : Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents can earn up to $30,000 in recruitment incentives . This includes a $20,000 incentive, with $10,000 paid upon successful completion of training at the Border Patrol Academy and the remaining $10,000 after a three-year service agreement. Additionally, those accepting positions in prioritized locations may be eligible for an extra $10,000.

Salary and Benefits : Newly appointed law enforcement Border Patrol Agents enjoy a base salary ranging from GL-9 / GS-11 at $63,148 - $120,145 per year . Locality pay varies by duty location, and eligible BPAs may receive up to an additional 25% in overtime pay. This career ladder position allows for promotions without re-applying upon successful completion in the lower grade level. Benefits include :

After hiring, successful candidates will undergo approximately six months of intensive training at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, covering immigration laws, law enforcement operations, and firearms training. Proficiency in Spanish is required, and training will be provided at the Academy.
