Role Description
The Mechanical Engineering team at Form is responsible for designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure that forms the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory.
We're hiring a hands-on Staff Materials Engineer to bring expertise in materials, platings, and seals to our team. In this role, you will lead efforts related to materials selection, design and reliability of our systems critical seals, and optimization of dissimilar material interfaces. The focus of this role will be on both material characterization and selection, but also the design, manufacturability, and reliability of solutions.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of scaling our multi-day energy storage system at Form and contributing to a sustainable future!
What you'll do :
- Guide material characterization and selection within the mechanical design team
- Work with the Reliability team to design, prototype, and test critical seals and dissimilar material interfaces present in our system to ensure performance and long-term reliability
- Ensure materials and designs are performant across product life in the presence of thermal, electrical, chemical, and physical exposures.
- Lead the design teams' root cause analysis of materials compatibility failures
- Participate early in the design process for new cell, module, and enclosure designs to influence material selection and test / validation planning
- Define metrology processes for QC of materials through the production flow
- Collaborate with the compliance team to ensure selected materials meet all safety and end use requirements
