KPMG is currently seeking a Senior Paralegal to join our Firm's Litigation team.
Responsibilities:- Work with in-house counsel, outside counsel and other firm professionals and staff members in managing and responding to wide-ranging inquiries from multiple sources, including civil litigation and formal and informal government inquiries; assume responsibility for certain aspects of matter management (such as engaging with outside counsel, drafting matter summaries, conducting research)
- Assist in-house counsel and others in responding to subpoenas and other forms of regulatory inquiry as well as diligence and conflicts requests
- Manage document preservation procedures through an electronic system; draft preservation notices based on analysis of subpoenas, document requests, and discovery demands; identify appropriate recipients using personnel records; conduct periodic assessments to determine whether preservation notices should be lifted
- Maintain and update internal legal department databases and ebilling/matter management platform and assist in generating periodic reports for department as well as firm leadership; assist in maintaining and updating OGC litigation policies and procedures
- Conduct legal and factual research using various online platforms
- Mentor and provide guidance and direction to more junior paralegals
- Lead and implement projects to improve effectiveness and efficiency of Office of General Counsel (OGC) litigation practices, particularly relating to process documentation, technology transformation, and AI implementation
- Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to uphold KPMG's respectful and courteous work environment
- Minimum five years of recent experience working as a paralegal within a law firm or in-house counsel, or equivalent background
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred
- Experience assisting with complex civil litigation and regulatory investigations and responding to government subpoenas or other document requests; background with litigation and regulatory investigations involving accounting firms, similar professional organizations or financial institutions is preferred
- Familiarity with Microsoft Suite (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) and Adobe Acrobat, as well as working knowledge of various online research databases; experience with litigation eDiscovery applications/databases such as Exterro, Relativity, Westlaw/Lexis and PACER; background with ebilling/matter management platforms required; specific knowledge of CounselLink and familiarity with AI-enabled legal tech platforms, such as CoCounsel, Harvey, and more
- Proficiency in data analytics and reporting, including the ability to manage and analyze matter-related data, generate comprehensive reports, and provide actionable insights
- Complete understanding of the litigation process and case management from discovery through trial
- Strong writing, interpersonal, project management and oral communication skills; ability to communicate succinctly and accurately in an active litigation environment; capability to work independently with little supervision, as well as demonstrated collaboration skills, including building strong business partnerships and working within cross-functional teams; ability to multitask and work under time constraints, as needed
