Are you eager to make a significant impact on pressing issues like climate change and clean water but unsure where to begin? Green Corps offers a yearlong, paid training program that equips you with the necessary skills and experiences to jumpstart your organizing career while actively contributing to crucial environmental causes, from protecting our natural landscapes to advocating for cleaner oceans and combating climate change pollution.
Program Overview and Key Responsibilities
The Green Corps Organizer program uniquely combines classroom instruction with hands-on field experience, providing you with a robust foundation for a fulfilling career dedicated to environmental preservation. Throughout the year, participants will:
- Engage in eight weeks of intensive classroom training covering essential environmental organizing principles, including volunteer recruitment and training, strategic campaign development, event organization, and media engagement.
- Lead three to five diverse campaigns across various locations nationwide, allowing you to work on issues such as reducing single-use plastic pollution, promoting clean energy, and advocating for wetlands protection. You could start in one city and move to others, including engaging with communities directly through canvassing efforts.
- Manage a grassroots canvass office for the year’s final campaign, overseeing staff hiring, training, public education efforts, member recruitment, and fundraising for environmental and public interest organizations.
- Acquire essential skills and experiences necessary to kickstart your organizing career. Following program completion, we actively connect graduates with job opportunities within the environmental and social change sectors. Many organizations seek trained organizers to lead their campaigns, enabling most graduates to secure professional roles immediately.
- This role requires a level of discretion and independent judgment in making impactful decisions.
Qualifications
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates to join our acclaimed training program. No prior organizing experience is necessary, but we value:
- A deep passion for environmental protection and a commitment to pursuing a career in this sector.
- Strong communication skills, encompassing writing, public speaking, and effective interaction with individuals and groups.
- Leadership experience, whether in academic settings or community engagements.
- A solid work ethic and dedication to achieving goals, alongside the adaptability to pivot as dynamic campaigns evolve.
- A genuine eagerness to dedicate a year to learning the intricacies of organizing across multiple campaigns, collaborating with various partners, and adjusting to diverse locations.
