Come work with us in Suisun Marsh, the largest contiguous brackish water marsh in the Western U.S.! Suisun Marsh is home to a variety of wildlife species including : the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse, tule elk, western pond turtles, and a variety of waterfowl. This year we will be collecting biological data on wildlife and plant populations to support the Suisun Marsh Plan and Suisun Marsh Preservation Agreement.
Summer surveys will include small mammal trapping and vegetation surveys to monitor salt marsh harvest mice. In the fall you will assist with elk surveys, bird surveys, and work at the hunter check station for Grizzly Island Wildlife Area during pheasant, elk, and waterfowl hunts.
This a great opportunity to apply and gain varied experience with wildlife surveys in tidal and managed wetlands.
The Environmental Services Intern classification is a non-testing classification.
The Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid classification is a non-testing classification

Working Conditions
Work irregular hours and varying workweek schedules to accommodate field work, which may include working on weekends. Field days can be 10-12 hours long and start early in the morning. Requires tolerating mosquitos, ticks, and inclement weather (heat or rain) and walking distances over uneven and flooded terrain. Ability to work on various small watercrafts (motorized and self-propelled [kayak]). Must possess a valid driver’s license. Requires driving on both primitive rural and highly congested urban roads. Ability to sit and use a computer keyboard several hours a day. Wearing a Department of Fish and Wildlife uniform is required as a condition of employment while conducting field work and public work duties.
