Role description :

Arcadis is seeking an Environmental Permitting Specialist to join our Enviro Socio Permitting team to support our expanding business in the Upper Midwest across a range of sectors, including oil and gas, renewable energies, rail, and linear utilities. The successful candidate will assist with reporting, agency coordination, and permit compliance and have experience supporting a variety of environmental permitting at the federal, state, and local levels in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Michigan.

The position will require a candidate to work both collaboratively with a team of resource specialists, planners, and engineers and have the capacity to balance varying priorities and tasks to work on multiple projects concurrently and meet deliverable deadlines. Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks and teams.

As an Environmental Permitting Specialist with Arcadis, you'll soon discover you can make a difference in our company by collaborating with staff and contributing to an interesting array of projects. You will be a key member supporting strong technical communities within the Enviro Socio Permitting practice. This is a great opportunity to work with a dynamic team and gain experience in a wide variety of environmental projects for diverse market sectors. Your career growth will only be limited by your skills and your passion for success!

Role accountabilities :

  • As an Environmental Permitting Specialist, you will apply your technical knowledge to provide high quality deliverables to support planning and permitting for oil and gas, renewable energy, linear utilities, and rail clients. You will have experience with federal laws and regulations including the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act. The ideal candidate would also have experience with construction stormwater permitting and compliance, Section Water Quality Certifications, and floodplain permitting
  • You will also be tasked with preparing technical reports, work plans, and other environmental documents to support environmental permitting, and you will prepare regulatory permit applications (e.g., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Clean Water Act Section permit applications and Section Water Quality Certification applications, Rivers and Harbors Act Section review requests, and Section National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit applications). You will also lead agency consultations for threatened and endangered species and manage desktop environmental assessments to identify potential permitting requirements. This role may require occasional field support for wetland and waterbody delineations, habitat assessments, and site inspections. Expected travel is less than 15%; overnight travel may be required
  • In this role, you will use your excellent technical writing and communications skills to provide support to project teams and will be involved in mentoring junior staff. You will also assist with the growth of new and existing client relationships through delivery of quality work and data. You will be an important member of the Enviro Socio Permitting team interacting with other ecologists, cultural resource specialists, planners, engineers, senior technical experts and project / program managers as part of an interdisciplinary team

Qualifications & Experience :

First and foremost, do you share our passion for improving the quality of life? Do you want to be part of a growing environmental permitting practice to support clients in the Upper Midwest? If you are technically capable with experience in field surveys and environmental permitting, come join us! Required qualifications for the role include :

  • Bachelors degree in environmental science, planning, biology, ecology, or similar environmental discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in environmental planning and permitting in the Midwestern United States, including Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota
  • Experience developing permit applications, including Clean Water Act Section permits and Section Water Quality Certifications, and completing threatened and endangered species consultations
  • Experience with state and local permit permitting
