Summary
Perform grounds maintenance, conservation and grounds improvement duties as part of a grounds crew. Operate and maintain a variety of light to medium size construction / farm equipment. Tasks are diverse in nature and require use of individual analysis and judgment. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies, procedures, and regulations.
Essential Functions
- Operate farm and landscaping equipment and use landscaping related machines and hand tools, as required, but not limited to, backhoes, front end loaders, tractors, dump trucks, flatbed trucks, tractor pulled mowers, blades, plows, discs.
- Inspect and service equipment as necessary to maintain proper operating and safety requirements.
- Perform various manual tasks involved in landscaping and site improvement and athletic fields.
- Assist maintenance and other departments with excavation of utilities as required.
- Assist Zonal crews as directed.
- Be responsible for vehicle and vehicle inventory, if assigned, and for materials, tools and equipment, including making adjustments and using safe operating procedures; request scheduling of required maintenance and inspections and keep vehicle, tools, equipment and work areas clean and orderly.
- Cooperate with other co-workers and report necessary information to the immediate supervisor.
- Make routine decisions under general supervision using some individual analysis in accordance with established priorities and policies; refer major decisions to supervisor.
- Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential function of the job.
Other Responsibilities
Qualifications
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); two (2) years experience operating light to medium size landscaping and construction equipment; valid Texas / New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B; must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier. Subject to the YISD drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district-wide travel; must be able to lift, carry, push and / or pull up to fifty (50) pounds frequently; work under all weather conditions, around / on moving objects or vehicles and work under noisy conditions; be adaptable to work a shift schedule and / or hour other than regularly assigned; extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, reaching, stooping, heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and around / on moving objects or vehicles under all weather conditions. Positions requiring a Commercial Driver's License are subject to federal drug and alcohol testing regulations and annual transportation physical examination requirements required by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Be exposed to insects; ability to work with pesticides and herbicides or other potentially hazardous materials in a safe manner.
