Job Description
Demonstrates ability to assist the nurse with various duties as directed including placing specialty mattresses when applicable.
Performs proper glucose testing and records results accurately and timely
Participates in FALLS PREVENTION PROGRAM and identifies patients at risk for falls.
Practices wound prevention protocol. Proper use of PPE. Maintains Universal Precautions.
Maintains patient confidentiality of patient, facility and physician related information. Does not discuss patients or hospital business in public areas such as cafeteria, hallways or elevators. Is HIPAA Competent and compliant
Ability to perform and record patient weight, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation and pulse in timely manner and records in the computer
Demonstrates ability to administer complete / partial baths / oral care / denture care / hair care, foley care, shaving, and bed making skills.
Demonstrates knowledge of patient restraints and assures patient safety.
Assists in toileting needs of patients, assists to bathrooms, places bedpan and empties, records and observes patient intake and output accurately, empties collection devices (foleys)
Maintains an organized and clean work space. Completes assignments in a timely time frame
Demonstrates ability to perform postpartum care
Communicates accurately - verbal and written. Maintains harmonious work environment with co workers and staff
Safely transports patients via wheelchair and / or stretcher.
Answers phone promptly and courteously.
Transports specimens to lab and records in book.
Prepares patients for meals and assists when needed, serves fresh water daily and snacks when needed.
Answers patient call lights promptly, responds to patient needs and inquiries, provides quality care in a personal manner
Collects specimens as instructed including urine, sputum and stool specimen, assures specimen container is labeled and places in a bio hazard bag.
Demonstrates ability to position patient, use LYCO lift, transfer patients from bed to chair and reverse, lifts patient properly with correct body mechanics to prevent personal injury, assist patient out of bed, ambulate as needed.
Performing EKGs and documents when performed
Reports all abnormal findings to nurse assigned or charge nurse.
Performs hourly rounding on patients to ensure needs are met and patient safety is upheld.
Notifies nurse assigned when taking breaks or meals.
Demonstrates competency with enemas when assigned
Manages supplies as not to bring excessive supplies into patients rooms
Acts in a role of the patient sitter
Adheres to standards identifies in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies
Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs(i.e. culture, hearing and / or visually impaired)
All duties as assigned
EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
High School Diploma or equivalency
6 months to 1 year experience in a healthcare setting.
CREDENTIALS + QUALIFICATIONS :
BLS - AHA approved
