The Cambria Hotel in Detroit is expanding and looking for an experienced Director of Hotel Event Sales to join our team!

Job Summary :

The Director of Hotel Event Sales is responsible for developing and leading the event sales strategy to drive revenue, increase client satisfaction, and maximize the profitability of the hotel’s event spaces. This role includes overseeing a team of event sales professionals, building and maintaining relationships with clients, and working collaboratively with other departments to ensure the seamless execution of events. This position is also responsible for negotiating and booking Corporate Event business.

Duties / Responsibilities :

Sales Leadership and Strategy :

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive event sales strategy aligned with hotel revenue goals.
  • Identify new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, and industry trends.
  • Set and manage sales targets, ensuring the team meets or exceeds revenue goals.
  • Conduct market analysis to remain competitive in pricing, trends, and offerings.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Team Management :

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing event sales team.
  • Provide ongoing training and coaching to team members on sales techniques and customer service.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and establish goals for individual team members.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Client Relationship Management :

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with corporate, social, and event clients.
  • Act as the primary contact for high-profile or VIP events.
  • Partner with clients to understand their needs and deliver tailored event solutions.

  • Collaboration and Event Execution :

  • Collaborate with the operations, catering, and banquet teams to ensure flawless event execution.
  • Communicate client expectations clearly to all relevant departments.
  • Attend events to ensure client satisfaction and troubleshoot any issues.
  • Develop and manage the event sales budget, including forecasting and expense control.
  • Analyze event profitability and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure timely invoicing and follow-up on outstanding payments.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Administrative Duties :

  • Oversee the preparation of contracts, proposals, and other sales documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, client interactions, and event details.
  • Generate regular reports on sales performance and client feedback.

  • Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in event sales or hospitality sales, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of event planning, sales techniques, and the hospitality industry.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM software, event management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Leadership : Proven ability to inspire and lead a team to achieve and exceed goals.
  • Customer Focus : Dedicated to understanding and fulfilling client needs.
  • Strategic Thinking : Ability to analyze market trends and create effective strategies.
  • Problem-Solving : Skilled in addressing challenges and finding effective solutions.
  • Attention to Detail : Ensures accuracy in contracts, proposals, and event execution.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the hotel and event spaces for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and moving of materials up to 25 lbs.
