Job Overview :

We are seeking a skilled Custom Bandsaw Blade Fabricator to join our manufacturing team at Wayne Fasteners, a Bostwick-Braun Company. This individual will be responsible for producing high-quality, custom bandsaw blades based on specific customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have experience working with bandsaw blades, an understanding of material properties, and a keen eye for detail to ensure precision and durability in every blade produced. You will work with both raw materials and specialized equipment to craft blades that meet our customers' needs for various industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities :

Fabrication of Custom Bandsaw Blades :

  • Cut, weld, and shape raw steel and carbide materials to create custom bandsaw blades per customer specifications.
  • Operate and maintain various machines and tools used in bandsaw blade production, such as band saw welders, grinders, and tensioning equipment.
  • Adjust blade geometry, tooth set, and pitch to meet specific cutting requirements (e.g., wood, metal, or other materials).

Quality Control and Inspection :

  • Ensure each blade meets industry standards and customer specifications by performing detailed inspections and tests on finished products.
  • Inspect blade alignment, tension, teeth integrity, and overall blade quality to ensure consistent performance.
  • Perform necessary adjustments to meet precise tolerances.
  • Material Handling and Preparation :

  • Select appropriate materials for blade production, including steel, carbide, or other specialized alloys.
  • Prepare and cut raw material stock to the required lengths and sizes before fabrication.
  • Machine Setup and Maintenance :

  • Set up and operate welding machines, grinders, band saws, and other machinery used in blade fabrication.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines and tools to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair minor issues with machines to avoid production delays.
  • Safety and Cleanliness :

  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace to ensure personal and team safety.
  • Wear appropriate protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and hearing protection when operating machinery.
  • Customization and Client Communication :

  • Work closely with sales or customer service teams to understand custom blade requirements, such as tooth geometry, materials, and cutting applications.
  • Make adjustments to blade production based on customer feedback and specific operational needs.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping :

  • Maintain accurate records of blade production processes, material usage, and any issues encountered.
  • Document blade specifications, machine settings, and other technical details for future reference or repeat orders.
  • Other Duties

  • Other duties may include but are not limited to picking orders, receiving, and stock put away.
  • Skills and Qualifications :

    Experience :

  • Previous experience working in a bandsaw blade manufacturing or fabrication environment is preferred.
  • Experience with welding, grinding, and precision machining is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills :

  • Proficiency in using band saw welders, grinders, and other cutting and shaping tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and custom orders.
  • Strong understanding of material properties, particularly metals and alloys used in bandsaw blades.
  • Attention to Detail :

  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring all blades meet precise specifications for size, quality, and durability.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) as needed.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, industrial environment.
  • Problem-Solving :

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues with machines, tools, and blade production, making necessary adjustments to meet specifications.
  • Safety Awareness :

  • Knowledge of industrial safety protocols and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Experience with operating machinery safely in a manufacturing setting.
  • Communication Skills :

  • Effective communication with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure clear understanding of production goals and custom requirements.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

    Education :

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certifications or training in welding, machining, or manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Technical Certifications :

  • Welding or machine certifications are a plus.
  • Experience :

  • Prior experience in custom manufacturing or working with precision tools / machinery is highly valued.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Must be able to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks with attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift heavy items, up to 50 lbs., as required.
  • Work in a factory environment with exposure to noise, vibration, and machinery.
  • Work Environment :

  • Industrial manufacturing facility with exposure to high-temperature machines, metalworking tools, and potential welding fumes.
  • Regular use of safety gear, including gloves, goggles, and hearing protection.
