Job description

Overview :

Join is in our mission to save lives through organ donation!

The Clinical Coordinator at Gift of Hope Responsible for evaluating potential organ donors and managing daily referral activity, both through new and ongoing referrals; r esponsible for timely referral response, assessment, and evaluation of potential organ donors. In this role, you wouold work closely with 1 case at a time, to ensure every opportunity for organ donation is successful, while collaborating with other healthcare professionals.

This position is on call, and you will be working from home at times as well as traveling to hospitals to evaluate donation referrals.

This is a night shift position, 1900-0700.

Compensation range for this position is $34.95-$39.42 per hour.

Responsibilities :

The following essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Advance Gift of Hopes mission, vision and core values : providing compassionate service, contributing to outstanding teams and engaging as one of our passionate people committed to a positive culture that embraces diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
  • Responsible for triage of organ referrals, obtaining clinical information to determine medical suitability, providing clinical assessment to determine organ viability
  • Create case plan for organ referrals including further needs once onsite staff involved.
  • Support staff through the referral process and provide additional education and information surrounding the donation process as needed
  • Assist staff in identifying issues related to the donation process and, in collaboration, create a plan of action
  • Coordinate onsite staff for organ donors and referral activity
  • Ensure accurate, clear clinical documentation according to current policies and procedures; identify, document, and communicate essential clinical information to associated Gift of Hope staff, transplant center staff, and administrators
  • Facilitate necessary testing and services, at the direction of the AOC / Medical Director
  • Provide all medically relevant information to the ME / Coroner to obtain release for donation
  • Communicate effectively with families of potential organ and tissue donors to provide information and support
  • Obtain and document authorization of organ and tissue donation in accordance with Gift of Hope policy
  • Perform physical assessment of potential donors
  • Coordinate medical management of donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors with the hospital team to ensure appropriate hemodynamic status
  • Participate in departmental quality assurance initiatives, meetings, educational activities and required training as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications :

The following identifies the minimum education and training required to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Minimum of one year in Allied Health or graduate RN providing patient care in an acute care setting, or previous OPO clinical experience
  • Other candidates may be considered on an individual basis at the discretion of management, dependent on aligned job experience

  • Ability to work outside normal business hours
  • 12-hour shifts including day shifts, night shifts, weekends and holidays as assigned; shifts extending beyond 12-hours when responsibilities warrant
  • Ability to drive personal auto to work assignments within the donor service area
  • Ability to learn and use technology such as computers, mobile devices and related software for communication and documentation
  • Ability to see, hear, speak and communicate effectively
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to respond to dispatches in a timely manner and arrive to work sites as assigned
  • Ability to function in an office environment and all hospital clinical practice areas
  • Ability to move donor from cart to bed with assistance
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop and kneel to perform job functions
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. of equipment from ground level to table-top level, and to push / pull 75 lbs. on a roller cart
  • Ability to use personal cell phone for business purposes
  • Work Environment

  • Normal office environment
  • Hospital clinical environment, including all patient care areas
  • Weekends and shifts extending beyond 12 hours when responsibilities warrant
  • Travel by personal auto or occasionally by plane to hospitals and other meeting locations within Gift of Hopes service area
  • Occasional travel outside the service area by auto or plane to attend conferences or meetings
  • Carry a personal cell phone to be accessible outside regular business hours
